Farking ridiculous...we got a call from the neighbour at our old place to tell us he was turning the water off as water was flowing in the bathroom...something popped...we were down in Sydney, so will see what surprises tomorrow brings when we can get over there.

No water here until I applied judicious heat to a few outside pipes...which now have a covering of split garden hose in preparation for tonight.

Bugger that mate...you're near the Blue Mountains? We seriously considered a move to Canberra a couple of years ago, after visiting during the summer. Seeing their winter temps recently, I'm glad we had a change of heart! Tassie seems tropical by comparison

Bah! -11C = 12F. That's about the temperature where we consider wearing something heavier than shorts and tank top in Michigan. I much prefer the cold than hot, especially where humidity is high.

Winters typically pull up at -5 to -7C overnight (20F), 7-14C during the day...never had a problem in 25 years at that place...burst a pipe fitting the yesterday morning at -11...the wet roof insulation was frozen at midday today in spots.

Plumbers are working no stop at present around the town...even realtors can't get them in any sort of decent timeframe.

Summer we usually have weeks in total over 37C (100F), occasionally dipping into the 40s (105+)

Hot box detector mile 96.5 XXX sub, total axles 684 no alarms. temperature 46, speed 27. Detector out.

That's 46C. Hot in an un-air-conditioned locomotive, how did the steam locomotive engineers and firemen survive it?

I spent a day shovelling coal into a steam train on the ZigZag Railway one fall day...it certainly was toasty.

There's tunnels around here that the Garrets had to traverse certain tunnels backwards to avoid cooking the crew.

We've only had 2 or 3 frosts this year, I don't think it's dropped below zero. Wet though. We get minus 2 or 3 and up to 30c...we moan about the weather, but I couldn't live anywhere hotter or colder than here.
