I have a Dovge Pickup with a 8.0 V-10 engine in it. The filter that is called for in Fram TG series is a TG-16. This filter is the same filter used on the V-6, and many other vehicles. It seems to me this filter is very small to filter 7 quarts of oil and a 10 cylinder engine with a displacement of 488c.i.

The Fram TG-8A is the same specs, except longer. The TG-8A is almost 1.5" longer than the TG16. The sealing O-ring and everything as far as mounting is the same with each. Can this be used to provide more filtering media and a little more oil capacity, or is there something I'm not seeing in the difference.

Here are the specs:

Product Type Tough Guard Lube Filter

TG-16
Anti-Drain Valve YES
Product Height 3.69"
Product I.D. 3/4-16 Th'd
Product O.D. 3.66"
Relief Valve Setting PSI 12

TG8A
Product Type Tough Guard Lube Filter
Anti-Drain Valve YES
Product Height 5.14"
Product I.D. 3/4-16 Th'd
Product O.D. 3.8"
Relief Valve Setting PSI 12

The TG43 is in between those two.
The 8A used to be the Ford standard filter
The 43 was Chryslers.
When a Ford truck had an oil cooler, the filter size was the 43.
There's a smaller one still that Chrysler uses on 4 cyl. autos.

Thanks guys. I thought this was the case, but I needed some resurrence, as these engines are expensive to replace.

I came across a Dodge 3500 with one of these engines and someone had put a PH8 size filter on it. It wouldn't come off. There was not enough room to remove it. I ended up crushing the filter as much as I could to remove it.
