This filter was in service on a relatives 1997 Acura RL with approx 150k miles
The odometer is dead but it does not get driven much I would guess less than 4k for the annual OCI
Oil used was Valvoline Maxlife syn blend 5w30 plus a can of the liqui moly motor oil saver as a test. Car uses/leaks a bit of oil and probably had about quart of top up added.
I'll take it to work, 20 min drive couple times per month and a 1.5 hr drive every other month.
Filter date code A22721
Media was more wavy than a Wix
So in this pic I had just pulled it out of the can.
I hadn't even set it down.
Initially I was taking a pic of the sharp edge of the bypass mating surface when I saw the spring on the bypass valve....
It was only hanging on with one of the hooks....
I then tried messing with it, compressing a bit so it would slip under both hooks and stay there.
I set it a couple times and with slight pressure it slid off and was lopsided again.
Finally I was able to get it in a spot where it was making contact with the 2 hooks, the 2 flat edges of the bypass clip part were not making contact.
At this point the hooks would not fall off with moderate pressure from my fingers.
Definitely caught some grit in the pleats.
Not much in the can. I'm used to seeing a fine silt.
I've never seen this before, it is somewhat common or yet another nail in the ultra coffin?
