Good Morning folks. My lovely lady (girlfriend; her conworkers husband had this filter. Thought I could use it. Box was beat up/taped together. Tried my best to get date code; didn’t see one.

OG ultra quality: good

@ZeeOSix and Mewbs: if you folks want a flashlight test let me know how to do it. Thank You
From your photos above, this OG Ultra has the fiber gasket seal between the leaf spring and the end caps. So most likely it will not show any light leakage.

Need to look for light between the leaf spring when installed, and the end cap like in the photo below taken by @Glenda W. . See the big thread she had showing all the test shots in this thread ---> LINK

Also, look at the leaf spring where it contacts the end cap and see if it's got ripples in the metal (probably not).

This one doesn’t have nipples. I’d say it would’ve been safe if it didn’t have that dent

They don't make em like they used to. I'm quite surprised how rust free that base plate is, specially for how old that filter is. Thanks for the photos.

It is worth noting that the fiber seal fit to the leaf spring is actually a interference fit so no light will actually shine through it. I have a few virgin and used samples of the OG FRAM Ultra/Titanium media element sitting in my garage work bench that I have observed. You'll notice how the leaf spring is held in, where as the newer Champ/Fram made leaf springs sometimes fall off of the element when it is removed from the can.

I admire all the work you put into doing this! How can I tell old stock from new? There’s a hardware store with a half dozen ultras that’ll fit my cars for $9 a piece close by. Covered in dust.

This one and others I’ve saw have the code etched into the can making it almost impossible to read.

Older production versions of the Fram Ultra had the logo sticker placed on the canister which is visible in the OP photo, the date code was laser etched back during this period which makes them hard to spot on the can. I believe later before Fram Group got acquired by Trico, they made a minor change to having the logo directly printed on the canister in monochrome ink.

Then these thing changed awhile ago. I’ve got some in the garage that are at least 4 yrs old and they’re all new stock. Yellow element material, completely different.

Peek down the center hole with a strong flashlight, look through the center tube holes-wire mesh should be present. That's how I find AAP OG Titaniums.
