Happy thanksgiving SilverC6 and Zee0Six

The email wasn't nasty towards employees or anything, basically asking why the [censored] this is an issue still when it's obviously been reported to them multiple times by other people..

On the other thread that had the same filter fail, it was suggested the filter may be too long and when the housing is closed, the filter is slightly crushed. This situation when combined with the operating condition causes the filter to fail in the way shown.

I would PM Motorking (or better yet email him at [email protected]). I am sure they will want to inspect the filter as they did on the last failure. I would switch to another brand (perhaps OEM) to ensure another failure does not happen.

Yes, I already notified Jay earlier when I first started the thread. I did notice the filter was definitely crushed.

LoL ... I never defend a product with issues, regardless of the brand. If it has problems, I'll say so.

I've never had a car with cartridge filter. Can you over tighten them to distort the filter? This is not the first failed cartridge and isn't brand specific. Or its almost like they are a little too long and get crushed. Is there a torque spec?

There is a torque spec for the cap, and you can't really over-tighten the cap in terms of making it go down much more from where it bottoms out. Once it bottoms out it might turn just a hair with the torque spec added to it.

The designer wants a hair of "crush" to ensures a good seal on both ends of the cartridge. I just think some of these cartridge filters are a little too long for the housing they sit in and get way too much crush on them.

I confused Hengst with Mahle as an OEM for euro cars. Anyways, Hengst are pretty good filters too but Mann is usually the cheapest and available at more places.

People still use Fram? Even with the often talked about Orange Can Of Death?!

I guess it goes to show at if you're careless, or take stupid risks, you get hurt.
