Yeah the Castrol w titanium gold bottle is $28 plus change and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is $27 plus change. That's at Wally world. I do think that Mobil one, Castrol, and Pennzoil all try to keep their highest level of oil less than $30 for good reason.
$30 for synthetic in canada is a huge deal.

I know someone at Napa that will sell me the old Pennzoil Ultra API SM 5L for 45ish dollars. Which is 10% above cost.

. We're in the same area I usually let him know if there's any good deals out there.

I've seen them clearance the Pennzoil filters at a good price; I'm not even sure why they had them. The Bosch and normal Puros didn't get lowered that much. I suppose much is up to the manager's discretion for clearance pricing, and if they're being obtuse, I guess that's that. He must like to lower oil filter prices when clearing, but not the oil.
AFAIK the best deal someone mentioned was to buy from distributors like shell or petrocan

I was just in Walmart North Regina and they now have a selection of Defense filters for $3.92. they have the 7317, the 9688 and a couple other ones I can't remember the part number. These filters have the same base plate as the Mobil 1.
I'm not sure where they are acquiring these filters from, but it is a good alternative to the current offerings of the overpriced FRAM, providing they have the part number you are looking for.

Ouch, 10 is a lot of filters. On the other hand, my buddy has some light agricultural stuff that takes the same filter, so that might be an option.

Well, yeah, that I can agree with. I don't buy oil in small quantities, usually. Four oil changes worth isn't a big deal at all for me.
