Cardboard endcaps don't bother me either but tears and very wavy pleats do. I would do 5K minimum on full synthetic.

I'm only doing 3k for now because its required under the Valvoline Engine Warranty. That why I'm trying cheaper filters to try and save some cost. The Purolator Boss filter i normally use kept 100% from and literally looked brand new after 5k miles with PUPPP. I just put on a Purolator Red Can (Classic) I bought 2 of them so we will see how they look. I have never had cracks or tears with Purolator in the past. I have also had good luck with Wix XP filters. My favorite ones are Amsoil and Royal Purple but the Purolator Boss filter are around 11.99 and in stock locally.

Having an engine warranty and having to change the oil out at 3,000 miles sounds like a warranty any oil manu could have, including most store brand oils.

Can you tell us more about this Valvoline warranty and why you signed up with it? Personally, and it's just my opinion, it sounds hokey to me and something I wouldn't sign up for unless they are paying for the oil?

And they filter less efficient than the EG. And you can get an Ultra for less than $11.99.

Some people like drinking the tearolater kool aide. I won't and never will a fram tg/xg or even a standard wix is a great upgrade from a boss.

Good looking filter. If it didn't tear, and the pleats are relatively straight, it did its' job.

Thanks for posting.

Bashes the TG but praises the Boss...

The TG I had that was a fail had an off center end cap which allowed glue shards to be cut off and go in the engine clean side. You didn't show the top and bottom, the problem area for that. The way that fiber end cap and center tube with a sharp edge come together is poor at best. An old cheap design that needs updating IMO. I wonder how many engines have glue shards in them out there from EG and TG and the owners never will know. Eventually maybe the glue works through the bearings back to the pan or finds a resting place.

The Boss media has never shown a failure problem, even though there are those that are trying to make that falsehood come true.
