What are your thoughts and experiences with Fram Tough Guard cannister oil filters ? My OCI’s in my soot producing and oil burning GDI engine gets a 4K mile / 6 month max OCI. If the Tough Guard oil filter as avoided quality issues of the Fram Endurance and Ultra oil filters with just slightly below the Fram top tier oil filters - then it might be a good buy ? A plus for the Tough Guard is the end cap grip surface - helpful to remove by hand and not have to use an oil wrench .

Same, if a friend comes by for a free oil change and I dont have a filter on hand, TG is what I grab at Walmart. I'm not scared of the OG either and use them on occasion.

Cartridge style or Canister with the fiber ends would be about the only ones I'd prefer to use these days until they get the leaf spring issue fixed. Obviously, any OG ultra's are good but they are getting slimmer by the day to buy.

Tough Guards appear to be the only filter First Brands hasn’t messed with (yet). I have used a bunch in the past and would again if necessary.

I use the fram Tough Guard sometimes. One thing I like It usually has more media inside than fram extra guard a plus for me. That end grippy stuff is also a big help on hard to access filters like my 2000 F150 5.4 4x4.

I've taken one TG to 9000 miles with pics posted here, and in a few months I should have pics for two on my cars currently that I'll take to 12-13K miles. I definitely like it for at least two of your 4K OCIs, possibly three. For just over $7 at WM it is an easy yes for me. Stude53 has some pics of TGs he's taken well over 10K, I think one at least of his went 20K.

You can also see where the fiber end mated with the spring …

For the TG 10358 my Toyota takes, they the not only changed the design in the past few years, but also moved production from China to Argentina. The former version was good. No experience with the latter version.

I was lucky enough to find one in a Walmart recently that had a date code indicating that it had been produced in 2021 so it still had the circular holes in the center tube. I would prefer to buy one of those instead of the ones with louvers if I can find them.
