For some time, my closest WM store been out of the Fram TG4397 / XG4967 that I have beenbeen using on my 2000 Toyota Camry for years. BTW, the oil filter is mounted upside down (base down) on the front of the engine. I have noticed that some of the cross reference charts show the TG4386 as a subsitute for the TG4967. The specs seem to show the fit of the base to be very close and the bypass pressure to be the same. What is real difference ? Why are 2 models if they are the same. I can either go to another Walmart store or order online if is truly important to get the model that is spec'd for the car but I would pick it up there when buying oil. Any recommendations ? - Thnnks

Is this a situation similar to the Purolator 14476 vs 14477? The 77 is slightly taller, and has been back specified to older Camrys which previously used the 76.

As noted by Stig, no downside to running the longer 4386(Puro14477) as long as room permits. It's the SAE (thread) equivalent of the 6607/14612 vs the longer7317/14610/57356 in the metric thread.

So run the 4386.

The 4386 is longer, like the Purolator 14477 and Wix 57145.

The 4967 is a shorty like the Puro 14476 and Wix 51394

I'd use the longer size.

My Vibe calls for the PH/TG/XG 4387 as well.
You could also use the PH/TG/XG 3614 if you have room .

My WM has lots of 4967s but low or out of 4386s all the time. The filters are identical in diameter and bypass, only the length is different. I wanted the 4386, they had none that weren't vandalized/opened, so I bought the Toyota 90915-yzzf1, three for $11 shipped.

I was given (proving I am somewhat objective at least) a couple of
"FPS" 4386 Frams. (I don't have them handy to be sure of the prefix) Apparently they are an Ultra but with a black base gasket. I intend to use them and examine the innards when removed.

OK - I will get Fram TG4386 / XG 4386 for my 2000 Toyota Camry 4-cyl since neither of the TG4967 / XG 4967 are in stock at the nearest WM location. Based on my experience with this store, it is unknown when they will restock the 4967s. They ran out of Prestone PS (for Honda) fluid and the shelf remained empty for several months.

- Thanks

I've used the Toyota OEMS on occasion when I couldn't find a deal I liked on Pure Ones, and cut them open. They are nicely made and often found at good prices on Ebay.

If I can find the OEM filter for the same or lower price shipped to my door, then I'm in. I will look around.
