Steve

Why don't you just change your name to FramLover and call it a night?

Then you could become FramHater and we could have a FramLover and a FramHater on the forum.

They could run screen mesh in a can with the same results. As long as the burst strength of the can is adequate.

Have you actually ever seen a top-fuel engine apart? I have a top-fuel piston sitting on my desk. The micron rating of the oil filter is about the last thing on the minds of these guys. They just want to set it up so it makes a whole pass. Which a lot of the time, doesn't happen.

I guess you dont get it....The FRAM filters are actually on the engins not a decal on the car body....3,000 HP Hemis that go 0 to 300 in around 4 seconds...and they are USING FRAM filters....must be pretty good quality for them to trust that filter with that type of engine....

1. The FRAM racing filters are completely different in construction from the cardboard end-capped orange cans at Walmart.

2. That 3,000HP HEMI (the Top-fuel ones are closer to 7,000HP) gets rebuilt EVERY race. That oil filter isn't doing much anyways. [/quote the racing Frams are more like the orange cans than not . The HP1 s

The lifespan is exactly long enough,I would guess!!! I like the nitro drag boats they are pretty much the exact top fuel engine that all the top fuelers run you can watch them rebuild the engines between rounds .I like the greenish oil and the destroyed parts .i am not sure the kind of oil makes a huge difference, longlife oil is a quarter mile and a short oil drain is when the oil comes out the side of the oil pan or block .I love the sound those engines make.

That's the FL-1A equivalent, correct? The picture of the guts of their racing filter on their website is how I have seen them: With metal end-caps.

(Note: It looks like it is in a cover, but much larger than the HP1)

That's a big part of the cost of the product ..like any other ..marketing.

That's why you pay $5 for the cheapest filter known to modern man. Because they pay more for the best advertising/marketing.

But they are made in the USA,so they can't be all that bad

We tore open the HP4(iirc - whatever a SBC would use) and found the same composite/cardboard endcaps. The main feature of that filter is the heavy can design. When I pointed out that Fram was the only manufacturer to do this, one bracket racer ..just on me pointing that out ..while even saying "Oh, I'm sure it does the job" (REALLY) ..went right out and ordered from fleet filter the NAPA/WIX equivalent.

Anything that REALLY needs the HP line is getting refreshed every few years. If not, and it's just a Sunday driven garage queen, the decades that it will take to require a refresh will make filter selection a non-issue. The heavy can may be required due to extreme pressures that one may attain in "just playing around".

I was told that the HP line was created for the Boss 302 and the counterpart Camaro Z28 that both came out in 1970 (I think it was 1970 1/2 for the Z28. Allegedly (again, this is what I was told- so I'm not putting truth out here) the engines, stock, were blowing the filters apart.
