ever cut one of these open? I don't use FRAM filters but I wonder if there really is any difference between the FRAM available only up there and the ones down here in the

or is it just marketing? The part number on the box on their website is the same as an FRAM Extended Guard filter and most of the specs look the same with the only difference being ratings in miles and kilometers.

I find it interesting they market it as a different filter with the same number, not sure if they don't think people will notice its the same. I mean maybe before the days of the internet that would be possible to pull off but not these days. I agree with you that there is a lot better value for the money else where.

Yea, the missing ingredient is 'better filtration'. The SPE is 96% on ExtendedGuard, same as baseline ExtraGuard.

If it filtered like the ToughGuard (99% MPE) they would really have something since metal end caps are used on the ExtendedGuard.

Note: MPE is not the same as SPE.
 
so basically the jury is out on the "FRAM Synthetic Oil Filter", another [censored] filter?

anyways, the manufacturer claims that they are good for 11k!

just wondering if anyone has used it it and what they have to say about it...perhaps a cut open photo would be nice...i belive this filter is still cheaper than wix and napa gold!
 
I would not trust any product made by Fram. If they are willing to put their name on the basic filter with cardboard end caps and plastic valves, then why trust them. They (Honeywell) also make Prestone All Makes and Color which is another potentially engine damaging product as it can eat engine seals and is essentially just Dex Cool versus a truly all makes product. Don't buy Fram! Just about every other brand makes a better product.
 
NHRA? Do you mean Fram sponsors many racers? They sure do. That's where a good bit of the cost of the product comes from.... marketing. It sure isn't put into their baseline product ..and the price goes up from there. Their upper offerings actually don't look too bad at all from a construction standpoint ..but the price just does justify the expense in most cases.
 
This is exactly how Fram suckered the general customer into buying their product. They get their name out there in big print as the racing product and they are very good at marketing. Marketing doesn't make a good consumer product. Any company can make some limited quality products, or buy off someone to promote their name, but the point is that Fram sells the lowest quality product made at the base consumer level.
 
I guess you dont get it....The FRAM filters are actually on the engins not a decal on the car body....3,000 HP Hemis that go 0 to 300 in around 4 seconds...and they are USING FRAM filters....must be pretty good quality for them to trust that filter with that type of engine....
 
Excatly. Fram SPONSORS those racers that use their product. Those racers don't use it ..nor put all the decals on their rigs for nothing.

That's a big part of the cost of the product ..like any other ..marketing.

That's why you pay $5 for the cheapest filter known to modern man. Because they pay more for the best advertising/marketing.

1. The FRAM racing filters are completely different in construction from the cardboard end-capped orange cans at Walmart.

2. That 3,000HP HEMI (the Top-fuel ones are closer to 7,000HP) gets rebuilt EVERY race. That oil filter isn't doing much anyways.
