And why's a 17 year old car on its 2d filter change?
2nd filter change while running HPL Engine Cleaner 30. I am running the oil and EC30 for a 5k mile oil change. With the EC30 you change the filter every 1500-2000k miles to help prevent any clogging. The motor was neglected on oci's by the previous owner and I am trying to clean the rings as it uses some oil in-between oci's with no obvious leaking.

He's using HPL Engine Cleaner SAE 30 which is a fully formulated ester based oil designed to replace 1 quart of oil for a short interval to clean the engine.

Thanks for the pics, OP. Looks like it did a little bit of cleaning.
Yeah it's done some cleaning, hopefully the next will show some more.

I’d probably run the HPL in my Impreza just as a maintenance item but since it’s still on original HG that weep a little oil, I’d be worried it would wash away the gunk on the oil returns in the heads and then I’d be replacing the HG.

It’s enough to smell some oil burning but never enough to be measurable over a 5k OCI. In this case, I’m a monitor but wait attitude.

I will run the HPL Engine Cleaner in my F150 and Transit Connect without worry though. Should be interesting since I’ve had the 150 since 23k and been on Ravenol DXG almost the entire time since, and the TC has been on Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 since 6k. Should be informative if those brands are clean or not…

Yeah I wouldn't poke the bear on that one either.

My truck and the Element are needing the most cleaning the truck burns some as well. My Expedition was very well maintained w Motorcraft blend every 3k miles by the previous owner. I bought it at 182k and it has 192k now. The filler hole view looks extremely clean so I am curious if I get anything out of it as well or not. Would definitely be curious about your F150 and TC as well.

Looks good. Did you put same oil and filter back in?

Thank You
Yes I topped it off with the Quaker State Full Synthetic oil and fram filter. I usually run Honda filters for it but for the short changes I just ran the orange cans. I will go back to the Honda's when this last run is done and I change the oil.
