Fram PH3593A - Non Failure

I cut up a Fram PH 3593A last night. It had 5000 miles on my Mitsu Montero with 3L V6. The ADBV did not leak and no pleats were torn. Nor was there any media blown through into the center tube. The media was very unevenly spaced with a couple very wide spaces next to the metal pleat crimp. The media was also crumpled and the cardboard endcaps were distorted. The pressure relief valve seemed functional. (kind of a reverse plunger type). So, it did not fail in any way. However, I will not buy it again since I now know that Purolator Premium Plus filters are cheaper and better. Sorry no pics.

I too cut open a Fram PH8. It had over 15K miles on it. It was also as you described.

I have yet to personally see a failed oil filter of any brand, but none of the filter's I've looked at have gone over 4,600 miles. It's reassuring to know a much longer OCI is possible without automatically resulting in a failure.

I used Fram PH3593A filters and Havoline 10W30 oil for 250k miles total, on two Mazda 4cyl trucks. OCI of 4k. I am not aware of any difficulties oil or filter related.

The previous owner of my truck (1987 Mazda) used PH3593A on it for 150,000 miles before I got it, he even went as far as cutting off the top of the fram oil filter box and keeping it with the owners manual so he knew he would get the right Fram. I use Supertech now, but I doubt I'd notice much difference between the Fram and the Supertech except the fram is a dollar more.

Due to the design, if the endcaps were distorted it is likely that a leak could develop between the endcap and ADBV or spring. One of the major problems with Fram is there lack of support in this area.
