Marketing 101.
It’s called integrity and truthfulness in marketing. Some blenders and manufacturers are able to truthfully label which approvals and specifications the product actually has and which are suggestions. Some have a more difficult time not obfuscating between the two.

This one however fails even at the typical obfuscation in that they list competing approvals that are contradictory. That makes it a complete fabrication. This isn’t marketing it is bull.

Again, marketing.

Which if true is unfortunate. There’s nothing wrong with good marketing, something that highlights the actual benefits and features a product possesses. Kind of like how a good salesperson does when he or she is selling a good product. There one does not need to make up anything nor lie about the product since in many ways it sells itself.

Here though it is not marketing and highlighting a product’s demonstrated features. This is lying and fabricating clearly false information that cannot be true. It should be labeled as such.

Haven’t seen it at Walmart yet they had it at Advanced Auto though don’t think I’ll be running it either I like my Castrol and Valvoline too much for that.

Doesn't even look to be very cheap, so not sure why one would choose it over others?

Is Fram considered a premium brand by enough people to charge the same price as main brand oils? It could also just be the parts store markup, as I am comparing prices to Walmart, which probably isn't fair.

The Synthetic HM is the same price I pay for Mobil 1 High Mileage 5qt jug.

Genuinely curious.

They make the filters most people buy, and Fram/AAP is probably banking on those people thinking, "Oh, wow. They make the filter so the oil must be really good!".

But seriously, if they're listing certifications that can't possibly be true, isn't that illegal somehow? Or does that depend on who's president?

I think the "meets requirements of" weasel language they use will get them off the hook if anyone would ever question it. It does not say "approved for," and it does not say that it meets all requirements.

One of those "read between the lines" things. :)

This FRAM 5W-40 certainly is not on the approved MB list, and neither is Amalie 5W-40 oil which is possibly what is inside this FRAM oil container.

It does carry a Dexos2 lic#.

To @Quattro Pete's point... Amalie

Brand names are becoming more of a marketing gimmick than anything. They usually depend on their prior history to get consumer respect. Names like Craftsman for example attract those who remember the Craftsman tools from long ago. Today’s Craftsman is not the same.

Maytag, Jennair, Kitchenaid, are they better than Whirlpool or Hotpoint? We see it here in oil filters as two corporations make probably 90% of the filters used here. Consolidation is blurring the brand

Regardless … when I bought a Maytag dishwasher in 2019 - it had more power, more stainless, and was quieter than the comparable priced Whirlpool … so don‘t think it’s always decals …
There was no Hotpoint as an option.

It’s a fancier version of the Whirlpool and likely sharing the same parts. Kind of like a Lincoln and a Ford.

I compared them side by side … and could have bet a thousand you would use that Lincoln analogy …
So what ? Had longer warranty too.
