Euro oil in rebuilt GM LM7?

Hi, My 2001 Tahoe had its engine kaput. Now it has a rebuilt unit. The truck is used for daily driving but it lives on the hot tropic. Can I and should I use European car formula on a fresh engine? Can a 5w-30 Pennzoil Euro L or Mobil 1 FS 5w-30 protect better my engine? I am hesitant on using these oils because of the risk of clogging the catalytic converter, being too thick for the lifters when starting and at operating temperature being slower and harder for the oil pump.

Don't know where your concerns came from. Euro oils aren't going to clog your converter and as for the lifters, that's some imaginary stuff there.

Sure, no problem. When I had my 2001 Suburban many years ago I was running Euro 5W-40. I also have some for my 2003 Tahoe but haven't had a need to change it yet.
What oil? I had doubts because most of the people changing to euro oils had high mileage engines. Also, is that much better the euro oils for a LM7?

What GM engine is it? What engine oil did the owner's manual call for back in 2001? I would use Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 or Pennzoil Euro LX 0W-30. If you want to go fancy and have the $ go with Amsoil, HPL or Red Line Lubricants. There are many choices out there, but it would be nice to know what engine you have. Are there any warranty concerns to worry about? What does the engine builder recommend you use for engine oil? More information would be nice.

It's a 5.3L. It most likely called for Mobil 1 5w-30. It's a ATK stock LM7/5.3L long block and it should be made to OEM specifications.

Is there warranty to be worried about? Are you looking for lowest price, highest quality, you do your own service work or hire it done?

Dang, now that you mentioned it...after the 3 year warranty or in the future I can think on the euro oil. For now I should stay with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30.

Good idea, good oil choice. I would suggest oil change intervals of 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Also used oil analysis would be a good idea, then maybe you can stretch those intervals out some if you want to. Try to stay away from Blackstone labs, there fuel dilution testing is off. Polaris Labs is good. Polaris is who Amsoil contracts with to do their testing. I will put a couple links here for you to look at. If you go with a oil analysis program, just stay away from the USPS. Use UPS or FedEx.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

Yes absolutely. Easy answer. Next question. If you'd run it from the start, maybe your engine would not have gone kaput.

You don't have to worry about catalytic converters because your vehicle doesn't have a OPF (gasoline version of a diesel DPF). These oils have always been safe for catalytic converters.

An ACEA C3 or A3/B4 oil will always have a higher hths which will provide more headroom under extreme use (towing, sustained high speeds, etc).

Your choice should depend on whether or not your country requires Ultra Low Sulphur Gasoline (ULSG). If ULSG is no then choose Mobil 1 FS.

Or Mobil Truck & SUV 5w-30. Then go grab that bottle of 5w-30 ESP once warranty is finished.

None of that is a legitimate concern. None of it. All those are 30-grade oils and all have the same winter rating. Just Internet nonsense that you've probably seen on here and are reposting.

Where do you live in the tropics? If you do live in the tropics then the winter rating couldn't be more irrelevant.

But the oil pump. Please let that one die a merciful death. Please.

What would that get you? Both those oils have an API SQ license.
YT video (with real testing) have shown more resistance to oxidation (which is what you want in high heat applications like a truck towing a 10,000 lb trailer). API is a standard so that doesn't show everything of what another API oil can do better in certain areas.

Long-term, sure. But you also want sufficient HT/HS in towing. The ESP is better in this area. Are you claiming this YouTube video shows the T&SUV has better oxidation resistance than the ESP? Which video is this?

And the proof of VW 504 00 approval means a lot more to me than an API license. I’m not sure what you’re trying to say since they both have the same license whereas one has approvals as well.

 No I'm not saying that at all. OP wants to use the non European oil until the warranty is over. Everyone already knows about the ESP having higher HT/HS etc. Go search on here for that video like you want everyone else to do. 😅

I'm not sure what you're trying to say since you brought up that they're both API & nothing about other approvals or specifications.
