FRAM Extra Guard PH7317 For 3k OCI

I’m sticking with 3k OCI on both of my Hondas (why not), and with the recent change in ultra’s design looking for a cheaper alternative. Would the subject filter work for 3k mi OCIs? 4$ with subscribe and save sounds very attractive

Yes, that filter would work OK for 3K OCIs. It's rated for much longer than that. It's essentially like the Honda OEM filter. It could possibly be better efficiency since Honda never publishes the efficiency of the OEM Honda filter.

See if any of those have been cut open lately. These Champ/Fram's have a leaf spring leak issue if they've not been stamped correctly. If you can visit Oreilly's they have some Microgard branded filters for as low as $5.79.

That issue should not be in play with a fiber endcap filter. JMO.

I use the PH7317 and the PH4386 for 4,000 to 6,000 mile oil changes on our Civic (7317) and RAV4/Camry (4386) all the time and have cut them all open and never seen or had an issue. Running everything from 0W20 to 15W40 and everything in between.

Yes, but to be clear, not on every model. Here is a PH4967. I use the similar Super Tech ST4967 version minus the silicon ADBV. I just wish they ditched the fiber end caps but that's not to say they don't work.

The MicroGards use a coil spring, and C&Ps of the Pentius shows a coil spring too. So no leaf spring seal to leak.

Sadly the new champ labs/supertech style bypass leaks. I had hope for them.

As Zee mentioned not a leaf spring design but a coil spring. I have tested the actual bypass valve on the Microgard Select and Pentius filters and found no leakage.
