Needed to do a oil change on a 2010 ML350. Was at Walmart this morning and not sure if I had the oil filter in the garage, picked up a fram Tough Guard. It was the only filter Walmart had in stock for this ML350.

Went to install the Tough Guard, and discovered the opening is to small, the Tough Guard won't slide over the filter mount.

Went through my filter stash, and discovered I had a Fram Ultra Synthetic. This Ultra Synthetic fit just fine. Both have like size numbers of 8481.

Another sign of concern for newly purchased Fram filters. This was not a big deal for me, but for guy doing a oil change at 8pm on a Sunday night, and needs the car to depart for work at 5am Monday morning, this could be a big hassle.

That's beat and depressing

I use only Mann-Hummel filters for my MB's. OE supplier and never had an issue.

That is my preferred method. Simply am having a lot of things going on, and thought best to change the oil now with a Fram filter, then wait to obtain an OEM filter and miss the oil change window I had earlier today.

I'd be contacting Fram about that. Sounds like manufacturing is not meeting drawings, and they'd probably like to know about that.

I picked up quite a bit of the Pentosin 5w-30 & 5W-40 during the great AZ sell-off a few years ago, good stuff when you can buy it on the cheap. I wonder how much Pentosin AAP sells at $21.99/lt?

TG just "tough" to get started or physically wouldn't even to begin to fit in the hole? Would "jamming" it in to get started have worked you think? Not that you should have to do that.

Was just talking about how hopefully First Brands wouldn't start messing up cartridges. Sigh.

As you discovered one of the important factors in cartridge filters, is fit in the housing. Why if I don't have knowledge of the specific aftermarket application, I like to recommend the OEM. Not saying there aren't good aftermarket cartridges (there are), but assured fit generally goes to the OEM cartridge.
