FRAM Extra Guard #3614, 6,000 miles CUT OPEN

Off of a friends 2016 Ford Escape 2.0 eco boost engine with Kendall's synthetic 5w30. Filter looks good I think also. Put a FRAM ultra #3614 on and some Kendall 5w30 he brought in. Vehicle already has like 50,xxx miles on it as he sells big equipment for a living so lots of driving. Enjoy the pics

Actually, seam seems like it's bent awkwardly as I felt it and examined it and it is/was not tore. Weird indeed

For a comparable price, I'd take a FL910S or pay a couple dollars more for a Tough Guard.

This filter is rated UP TO 5000 miles. People usually don't push things all the way to "up to". Considering this filter was used for 6k, no wonder it's torn.

It SHOULD be able to handle a factory OCI, even if it is 10K. The old half smashed Extra Guard phenomenon, I had hoped it no longer existed.

Looks good. That tear must have been during autopsy. Its not in an area that would tear under load. But, its a Fram so the YouTubers and haters gonna use that to hate.

He said it isn't torn. It does look odd, kinda like the seam was misaligned when it got the glue job.

People do not always want or need a high end filter, but would like the best for their $

car51, haters will still hate, no matter what. My 2001 Honda Accord that I retired last year had 370k mostly on Fram Extra Guard with a Super Tech or Tech 2000 as they used to be called thrown in the mix. Also, Super Tech 5w30 regular oil. When I retired it, the engine still ran like a watch. Unfortunately the cat or egr was having issues and did not pass emissions. It was so close to passing, but it didn't. Since it looked like [censored] after all those miles it was not worth fixing. Anyway,

I wholeheartedly agree! In this case, the filter was used beyond what Fram claims it will hold to.

However, Fram Ultras were proven to hold over the 15k claim. Some users ran it around 20k miles.

We're weird fanatics, that's all. Millions of cars in U.S. survived hundreds of thousands of miles. My curiosity is, will a 200k engine that had a good filter sound different than an engine that had a Fram EG? Will that small difference in wear protection make a difference in how an old engine sounds? I hear a lot of old cars sound like [censored], while my 12 Accord still sounds like new.
