Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

38 pages, whats the take away from this thread?
Pretty much the same as it was at very beginning of the thread. FE Endurance filters have a metal to metal seal area that allows dirty/upstream oil to bypass. Simple. Not what one should expect to find in any filter, but more so with a ~$13 "premium" filter like the FE.

Thought I'd put this here since the focus is on the leaf spring stamping quality. Here's the leaf spring off an OG Ultra with a date code of in July 2016, when they were made better. Checkout the quality of the sealing area, and this one was also sealing on the fiber ring in the end cap design still used on the OG Ultra back then. What happened Fram ???

July 2016 (Rank Group) to current, I'd say Trico/First Brands happened.

They need to bring back the fiber ring.

Below is a Fram Endurance with a non-rippled leaf spring…but, it still leaks. Just took this off of my accord after an 8,200mi OCI.

It must not be very flat (even though it's smooth) in order to leave a gap that large. In the photo of the bottom of the leaf spring, one side between the ears looks a bit different than the other side. Was that gap on both sides?

I just checked the flatness on the OG Ultra leaf spring I showed earlier, and it's pretty flat. Left a.full impression in the fiber sealing ring in the end cap too - photo below. The inner edge of the fiber ring also fits tight around the sides of the dome that sticks down into the center when the leaf spring is installed. Best setup ever, now just a piece of history. 🫤

So I admittedly rarely have viewed this section of Bitog. If the high-end Fram is no longer the choice for a good oil filter, what brand and model is recommended, in both the Canister and Cartridge style?

I'm now going with either the Carquest Premium (sold at Carquest or Advance Auto Parts stores) or Microgard Select (sold at O'Reilly's), preferably the ones made in Vietnam instead of China. I gave up on Motorcrafts too due to sloppy glue that comes loose in service.

Lots of discussion and cut open photos of the CQP and MGS filters in this forum. No leaf spring (coil spring instead), and the bypass valve is not metal to metal. Quality construction, and both the base gasket and ADBV are silicone. Cost is typically $8 - $10.

What is the difference with the Chinese made ones? The one on my Vette was made in Vietnam but the one I just bought for my Civic is made in China.

I can’t tell the difference. Here is a c&p I did on a China made one.

I think you’re correct about the (lack of) flatness.

Ignore my metal shaving from when I cut the can open.

And unlike yours with the fiber ring, this one has 4 little creases in the metal end cap that won’t allow the dome to fit tightly on the inside.

I believe earlier in the thread a few people reached out to Fram and Amsoil about the bypass valve leaf springs. Has anyone heard back from them?
