Hi all. Here we have a 2004 Subaru Forester with 229,232 miles, last change done at Walmart, using a Fram Core 6607 and Quaker State 5W-30 synthetic blend 5000 miles ago. Replaced with a Fram Tough Guard 6607 and Supertech 5W-30 synthetic blend. Can opened with a hacksaw. There was some debris in the oil filter that I couldn't identify, but we've had some work done on the valve covers recently. Maybe that's what the cause is. Looks pretty clean otherwise. Messy glue on the one side but it feels hard and does not flake away on my fingernail. ADBV was still flexible and had no cuts or breaks in it.

Isn't a Subaru spec'd for a 7317 oil filter? If I'm correct than they went with the 'undersized' filter (which probably doesn't matter and is done to keep inventory down).

My understanding is that the Fram 6607 is spec for this engine, but the 7317 is a recommended upgrade due to being physically larger but otherwise identical.

Guessing that's oil in the pleat opening in pic #7? It held up OK, considering that 12/9/2025 was close to the end of the line for Champion Labs, barring their reincarnation by PGI.

I like, it looks solid I have a case of these from my previous Nissan and will use them on the new Mazda 3.

That's correct, that's just oil reflecting light. I could not find any tears in the pleats. The bypass valve has the usual ruffles in it of course.
