FRAM American-Made Filter!

Went to WM to pick up a Filter for my Sonata. I don't normally use FRAM filters, but the cartridge filters for my Sonata were Identical (even made in Korea) to the OEM filters. Almost as though they just re-boxed an OEM. After awhile I started seeing Made in China replacing the Korean ones. So when I bought them I would make a habit of looking at the filters to make sure they were not the Chinese ones, as the quality on those was horrible. Well, yesterday, at WM, I'm looking at the filters for the older Korean stock, and lo and behold I find a Made In USA filter residing in the box! Quality seems on par with the OEM, gonna give it a try!

I must be behind the times when did the sonata start with cartridges? 2011?

Looks like a good filter to me. Maybe they are bringing some manufacturing jobs back to the US. What year and engine Sonata do you have? I have a 2011 4cyl and it takes a canister. Just curious.

When I bought a Fram cartridge filter for my E430 4-5 years ago it was made in USA, I was disappointed when I found that the new Fram filter for that car is now made in China when I tried to buy the 5qt M1 at Autozone. What did I do ? I went to Pep Boys and opened a Mobil 1 cartridge filter box and saw "Made in USA" stamped on the filter, for the same price I bought a higher quality Made in USA M1 filter instead of made in China inferior filter.

It was probably a TYPO.

This is basically what we encountered when getting a filter for my sister's 330i. Ended up running the China filter for a week or two then swapping it out for an OEM one.

Seems a bit of "Overkill"...

But then again, Filters are cheap; engines are not!

In 2006 with the 3.3L V6 Engine (I have a 2008). The 2.7L and 2.4L both get a Spin-on filter

Yup, exactly. The OEM one was a million times better made.

They are probably made by robots/machines, which were made in China; and then brought to America, so they can make filters, that say Made in USA

my 2003 sonata was a 2.7 v6 it took the spin on filter my 2006 had the 3.3 v6 and it took the cartige my 2009 santafe is a 3.3 v6 and it takes the cartridge my 2010 sonata is the 2.4 and it takes the spin on.go figure?

This makes me think of something that happened at Pep Boys.

Back when I had my Saturn ION, I used various filters from different places, and the only "Made in the USA" filter I ever found was the cheapest filter that Pep Boys sold.

That is why I always peek inside filter packages.

When I pull the made in china catridges off of the filter carrier they usually tear apart. You can squeeze a brand new chinese one and break in with one hand. You will never be able to break an OEM or equivalent filter. Give it a good squeeze next time, if you hear or feel it cracking, its junk.

man I was stupid man. I was using fram extra guard for about 4 years. That fram extra guard doesn't have anti-drainback valve. I thought all the oil filter is almost the same.

The good thing is the car is still ok.
Now I know. I will use Toyota OEM oil filter for life.

It looks similar (if not identical) to the OEM filter for my Azera. I have been using PureOnes lately when I catch them on sale at AAP. I do not like the felt "washers" on the end caps versus the rubber o-rings on the OEM.

How much was the Fram?
