I'm not sure how to feel about the upcoming F1 season. I'm excited about the new Cadillac team but the new regulations, from what I'm reading,
are making the cars slower. Both Max and Hamilton have said the cars are just no fun to drive. The power management, slowing for corners so
there is more power on the straights is going to make some weird racing, not to mention the sounds of the new power plant or power source
or whatever they are calling the engines now. I didn't like it when the change was made from the V10 era to the last now expired regulations,
but this, I feel, is going to be much worse.
At least in the past few years the cars have been close it performance to each other, lap times within less than a second of each other.
I wonder if this will be the same with the new regs. Some teams may just not be able to get it together and might be 3 or 4 seconds off the pace.

With half of the output electric and half combustion it's going to be atrociously bad. Engineers have already said that due to how much ev power is required if they lose any battery power the team is out.

Furthermore I've applied with the Cadillac team and they aren't responsive. They need more than just engineers working there.

I have a wait & see approach. Many times people will bad mouth something b/c they realize they aren't at the top. Of course, it's also possible that what they say is true, more or less. The last generation must have been pretty poor to drive. At least that was Oscar's comment in the cool down room after the final race being glad that he won't have to drive that car again.

I'm quite amazed at how much driving style has to change for a driver over the years. That seems like quite a feat.

Should F1 be forced to use money rubber bands for engines - they'll still spend enough cash stacks to get enough rubber bands to keep the status quo - interesting to some, boring to others, mostly fast enough.

Listened to a podcast with Lowdon and he mentioned how they posted around 600 job openings. They rec'd almost 145,000 applications/resumes, so I think you can forgive them for their oversight.... 🙄

More and more of this is coming out, but I also remember Ocon saying many, many weeks ago that drivers will need "to forget everything we learned about driving" or something similar.

What skills would you bring to a F1 team?
Good looks and great morals. Will need to disclose BITOG relationship. :ROFLMAO:

Sorry!

I was originally in the "Ah Krap!!" camp, but I'm thinking it will be great until the World Cup starts. Not much else we can do but wait for Aus in March.

I never watch all the practice stuff anyway. So there is that.

Bring back the 3.5 liter V10's. That was peak F1.

I can also live with the 1500cc turbos that were milking 1320hp in qualification spec out of a 1500cc fourty years ago.
Correction - 1400/1500hp for the BMW m12/13, apparently. One hp per cubic centimeter. How about 150hp in a 150cc Honda Grom. For all the 20 minutes that engine will last :ROFLMAO:
I wrote a college report on 80's F1 racing technology. My professor didn't understand most of it, as he isn't a race car person. They from research would bolt or wire the waste gate closed so trial engines used just for setting a fast lap would have 1200 hp or so. The race engines were "detuned " to 900hp or so.

I'm glad for the change...for now. It's going to challenge the drivers to relearn driving styles and hopefully juggle the pecking order. Mercedes did an end run around the regs by increasing compression above 18:1 while running, but last I heard some manufacturers may have issues with the start and low speed corners due to turbo lag.

Everyone is complaining about the engine format, but a big part of the reason F1 went in this direction was to attract more manufacturers, which has clearly worked.

This season is going to be a disaster, I think. The warnings about the PU should've been listened to, but unfortunately they used the cheaper hybrid PUs as an incentive to get Audi to join. I think teams will eventually figure out how to get decent, reliable power out of them without having to lift and coast in the straights, but it's not going to be this year. Watching their telemetry, it's sad watching the drivers be flat out on the throttle and their speed decreasing down the tail end of straights.

For Australia, I'll be interested in how much of an advantage Ferrari has off the line. They've clearly figured out how to spool up the turbos faster than everyone else.
