McLaren really screwed up by not pitting at least one of their cars during the early safety car. Basically handed Max the win today. If Max wins the championship next week then that mistake will be the reason

Absolutely they should have at least split the strategy and pitted one car. The problem is with their Papaya Rules they would have been incapable of deciding which one. As it's now near impossible for Piastri to win the championship they need to ditch the rules and get behind Norris for the last race. If they lose the drivers championship they will be able to look back over all the races at several Papaya rules decisions as the reason. This attempt at excessive fairness simply hasn't worked in the drivers favour.

Piastri was ahead of Verstappen, so that would not have been a viable option without giving up track position. But Norris was behind Verstappen and could have followed him into the pits immediately.

Personally, I understand them letting the drivers race. Most drivers never get a car that can compete for the WDC, and certainly not when their teammate is running equal to them. IMO, the championship means more when the driver had to duke it out.

Next year will be very interesting with the regulation changes. Teams that were midfield at best could potentially be front runners, and vice versa. This time next year we might see someone like Carlos Sainz or George Russell as world champion, you never know

Max is so chill. Multiple WDC winner, a deca-millionaire every year for the past decade, a couple of kids, playing around in WEC just for fun.

I was pleased to see Norris win in spite of the recent team errors but it made for a tense race. The one I feel sorry for is not Verstappen but Piastri because he still suffered from the team errors finishing 3rd in the championship when he should have at least been 2nd giving McLaren a clean sweep.

True, he seemed the calmest going into this weekend. I’m surprised though that Max didn’t try to back up the field or try something different outside of just driving flat out and I’m also not sure what happened to Oscar’s speed, especially after switching to the mediums where I was hoping he’d be faster and put more pressure on Max in the closing laps.
Happy for Lando having won his first WDC! Yuki’s move on the straight was just downright asinine.
Overall, this was a fun championship season to watch after several years of Hamilton and Verstappen dominating the WDCs.
I really hope Ferrari gets their stuff together for 2026.

And broadcast didn't show it, but Hamilton had a pretty good battle with Ocon. I think Alonso kept Ocon in Dr's range purposely so Hamilton couldn't advance. Otherwise he had an opportunity to pick up another two spots.

I never trust anything that is AI generated but there is a tiny bit of truth that the cars will be slower at first. On average they will be about two tenths a lap slower than the current cars. But that will change as they come out with upgrades. The new cars are smaller and lighter so on tighter tracks (Monaco!) we might actually see people passing each other! Imagine that!

I doubt you'll see anything related to passing improvement....... Especially at Monaco. From what I understand DRS is going away as well. In favor of some type of "Override Mode".

These cars just seem to get more boring every year. I miss the V-10 Schumacher era. Grooved tires and all. Even Verstappen has his doubts about next year's cars. Threatening to retire if the cars are less drivable. I can't say I blame him. He's just not the kind of guy who wants to do laps for a big paycheck.

That override mode just basically sounds like a different word for the same thing. Doesn’t seem different from DRS, the car behind can get that extra boost of power at the push of a button as long as they are within a second of the car ahead. How exactly is that different from DRS?

DRS is going away but the cars will have active aero with two configurations. I think drivers are wary because of the power split. They won't be able to full send whenever they want because half of the power will come from the electric side, so they can use it all up and be limited to engine power only. They'll have to be very strategic about attacking and defending. Car and track strategy will become much more important than pure pace. I'm of a wait and see mindset, but I can envision it being frustrating if a team doesn't get the regs right. But that's no different from the last few reg changes.

In theory MOM can be used anywhere on the track, but I would imagine it would be used mostly on the straights, much like DRS. But hopefully the increased flexibility adds more strategy.

It's such a shame TD39 ruined the close racing we had in 2022.
