with Havoline 5w-20 and LC. I'll be taking it out to 7500 miles which should put me into the first or second week in April. Added the standard 1 oz. per quart on initial fill and have been adding 1 oz. every 1,000 miles. So far no consumption, no surprises, weird noises or ticks. Also, no change in fuel economy though I'm not sure if LC is supposed to have any effect in that department.

I can hardly wait to see the 7500 mile UOA with this $1.40/qt. 5w-20 and LC additive. BTW...this is still a SL/GF3 formulation.

This 7,500 mile UOA should be especially significant since you did it during the worst months of the year. If it can hold up now it can easily hold up in the "nicer" weather

. And hopefully the snow and ice be will be melted enough where you can change the oil in your skating rink, Oh, sorry! I mean driveway

. LC doesn't affect your fuel mileage. You'll have to go to Odis' secret second brew, FP

. But with your car being so new I don't know in all honesty whether you'll notice a diffence in MPG. But you'll keep your fuel and intake system clean for a smoother running engine and save yourself from spending great wads of cash on "injection/fuel system cleaning".

What's the point?? Why bet a $3000 engine against $8 bucks worth of oil??

Do you get a prize if you win? What is the penalty if you lose?

What's "LC"? The latest and greatest mouse milk/snake oil, right?

FuelRod, With manufacturers going to 5,7.5,10K or longer OCI's, proving that oil CAN go this long is a good thing.

LC is Lube Control. It's NOT a snake oil, it's the best product on the market to keep the insoluble level low in order to let oil do its job: lubricate the engine. Few here on this board use ANY snake oils...this is one place where evidence of a product's usefulness is demanded.

There are no prizes other than taking pride in maintaining one's vehicle as best as possible.

I tend to agree with you. I would be at either extreme in the equation. I would either run 3,000 OCIs with Supertech and ST filters or 10,000 OCIs with Mobil 1 and Pure One filters. both options have been proven to be effective.

To get in the middle options (extend dino to long OCIs) is a risk I would be willing to bet your engine on but not my engine.

All that I can say is
 -

Find the edge of that envelope and take one step back.

One or two OCIs won't make or break an engine in finding your limits. Stride BOLDLY forth and take no prisoners.
