Forget about changing your own oil in new Ford Ranger

Here's how it's done in the current (Aussie market) Ranger with the 3.2 diesel. The US 2.3 EcoBoost has the oil filter in a very similar location.

He just turns then front wheel and accesses the filter just fine. He and other videos say it can be reached from the top too.

"Forget about changing your own oil" ???

The procedure is literally removing two splash shields and either unbolting a wheel, or much more likely just turning it. Wow, so complicated and scary!

And that "power steering control module underbody shield" appears to be a steel bash guard protecting the oil sump. I'm glad it's there.

At most, we are talking about an extra 2 min of work.

If you are not capable of removing several push pins and a few bolts, you should not be changing your oil anyway...

There is no need for it to be this ridiculous. It's just lazy designers/engineers.

Aerodynamics.

Oh is that what they are calling poor design these days...

X3.
Ford has been famous for doing some real headscratchers from an engineering standpoint over the years.
This is just another example. Having to undo anything besides a filter and a drain plug is asinine.

Don't tell me you enjoy working with push pins.

There is no excuse for a passenger vehicle to have its oil change procedure be this involved. None.

Ford is circling the drain with dumb designs, stupid decisions, crappy quality, and awful service.

But this is also the same engineering miracle that uses a rubber disc instead of a real u-joint in the drive shaft (they call it a guibo).

Nope. I've got the 3.5 Ecoboost. Easy peasy oil change.

And the 3.7 is easy as pie too...

You can take a wheel off then back on in less than 2min? spose you'll tell us you won't get filthy either. What size were those wheels?

Plastic clips really don't bother me. I keep most sizes on hand. Self-tapping screws are the annoying ones.

That is about how long it takes to remove and reinstall a wheel using my impact....?

Not sure what you are implying, but I do plenty of work on cars. Removing covers to perform an oil change is nothing new in this day/age.

Exactly. I realize belly pans are getting more and more common, but if an engineer can't include an easy to remove cover for regular maintenance (ie: oil changes), they need to be looking into a different field.

Removing covers is not the story here. A smart design will have a access panel to get to everything.

For the average diy owner who doesn't have a impact wrench, this becomes more than a simple task.
