Ford taking shots at Elon Musk

LOL Good point. Hopefully Ford learned from the Mach-e and not follow suit with their PU or they're going to be in a world of poo poo.

Ford totally blew it. We'll see how they take care of it, or you may be able to get the affected ones really cheap.

On the lightning.. The guys on the California boating forums are all over trying to figure out a way to make these work on our boat trips to our pet lakes and rivers

We think its going to have towing charging problems in the heat - no ones acid tested the thing in a desert towing.

So far its a perfect commuter, in town, home depot truck truck. Or a truck you leave at your river / lake place- because it can do house to local ramp supremely well.

They blew it alright, I feel bad for the early adopters. I think they're years away from getting it right, several years.

Both the regular ones and the GT's both.

The GT guys found out after purchase you only get 5 seconds of wide open throttle -so the Model 3&Y hands it it rear.

Now the run of the mill guys have an overheat problem.

Ford needs to step up and replace the hardware.

Maybe they shouldn't be so quick to ditch ICE. Especially since they don't have the EV's right, and the grid needs another 25 years. ;)

Ford has over 200k reservations on Lightning Trucks - and is actually delivering them. The number isn't bigger as they acknowledged they couldn't deliver more... Tesla still has some giant number of reservations on a truck that nobody knows when it may start being delivered. Which horse do you put your money on...
Betting against Tesla has been going on since what, about 2008? How's that working for ya?
Personally, I wish like heck I had bought TSLA stock in Dec 2018 instead of the Model 3, but the word on the street was Tesla would be belly up any day, right? $65 in Dec 2018, $800 today.

I was responding to a post specific to the Lightning and Cybertruck.

Do I order a truck from:

A company with great stock value that will deliver a undefined product at some as of yet undefined date?

or

A company that is actually delivering units today, with defined specs, and an orderbook that is actually constrained and bound by reality?

As a fleet manager, I know where my money is at...

You want to talk investing, that's a different ballgame.

How have Ford's EVs performed so far? Perhaps read about the Mustang Mach-E problems.
Don't get me wrong, I wish Ford's EV business unit well; it is good for us, the comsumer.

By the way, your post ended with, "Which horse do you put your money on..."

Ford has about 20 billion in outstanding debt.
Is that Accounts Payable, loans, or what?
Companies run on debt, which is leveraging other people's money.

Tesla carries about $30M in total liabilities, but they are building factories which is different than operations.

Are they perfect? No. Have Teslas been perfect from the day they lauched? No (at least once you start talking to people who actually have to repair things on them - as a friend or two actually does - not on fanboy type boards...).

I agree competition is a good thing. I'd not count out a company that has built as many trucks as Ford has to miss the mark as badly as some seem to think they will...

Our car has been perfect so far, but is has only been 3.5 years...
What problems are you speaking of? Maybe there is stuff I should be watching for.

Glad yours has been perfect. I own an F150 that's been perfect for 6+ years and an Explorer thats been perfect for over a year. Does that then mean all F150's and Explorers are perfect too?

Again, all manufacturers have issues - even Tesla. Forgive me for going here (I know, I know) but let me know what Consumer reports has to say on reliability for Teslas (hint: They aren't perfect...)

Yeah, CR has been all over the map with Tesla. 1st they called the Model S the best car they ever tested, then they would not recommend them.
But what CR calls reliability is a catch all bucket. They cite body panel alignment, paint issues, etc. but not a single thing about Tesla running problems.
CR surveys find Tesla as the vehicle with the highest customer satisfaction of any car, which they say is the #1 indicator of repeat sales.

All good.

Some of that satisfaction is going to fade when Teslas are not considered trendy anymore...and we are already getting pretty close to that.

Ford knows a thing or two about building cars and trucks but it seems to me they have been moving too fast. Not too fast for the market, that's critical, but too fast for them to nail it the first time. I'd hate to see them get a bad reputation on E that they can't shake.

The entire episode was concocted so he could sell that $50 Billion in Tesla stock and not cause the stock to collapse in value.
I thought whales can sell their stock through "dark pools" which are somehow exempt from influencing stock price because they carry so much weight? Excellent theory on the Twitter fiasco. I thought he was trolling them knowing about the bot issue, then driving the price down once he gets to court because twitter will have to prove they are worthless by exposing their true bot problem.

Anyway I love seeing Ford squirm and act like a baby here. They are admitting Tesla is better at their own game, and like mentioned before, the Dearborn MBAs can't hold a candle to the business management at Tesla.
