2005 Ford Taurus Rear Brake Job for Drum Brakes

Nice, clean them up with brake kleen before you paint and install them. Normally, they come in a plastic bag and the drums have a layer of oil on them to keep them from rusting while sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold. Any ole high temp paint will work. Help keep the rust down. Heck, I've used different colors of caliper paint or exhaust paint,,,,,whatever I had laying around. Just gonna turn white from the salt anyway.

You bet. Exactly what I did. I cleaned the oil off the grey coating with brake cleaner and sprayed some silver engine paint I had from another project.

WOW ! Those old rotors got eaten alive ! What a difference between the new & old . The paint will hold back the rust, maybe give it 2 coats if you have enough left. My 03' Toyota has 1 red one, and 1 blue one. 2 coats on each. That's what I had layin around. I'm not proud. I could care less if they are different colors. The road salt will turn them white anyway ...,,,but at least they won't be rusty under the salt. LOL....On a separate note, I can't get Auto Shack parts anymore !!!!!! They are based out of Canada, and got Trump Tariffed !!!!! I'm furious !!!!! I never had a problem with Auto Shack parts before. They had gotten so much better in the last 5 years. Used them for everything. Dirt cheap too. This friggin Trump gotta go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 day shipping to my door in New York This clown is nutzo !!!!!!!

The good news is that it's easy to get coated drums and rotors in the US. Rock Auto has a great selection. Most cars have plenty of rotors coated with a Geomet-type coating available, and if you have drums, the Wagner E-coated drums aren't bad at all. If you're lucky, you might even be able to get drums coated with a Geomet type coating, such as the OP's Taurus. (OP is in Canada and already did them, but plenty of people in the US on this site have the same kind of car)

A Geomet coating is the best coating for drums and rotors, with the second best being the E-coating that Wagner uses.

Yeh, I use geomet on my rotors. Only 1 car has drums. Gotta make an account with Rock Auto. Trump tariffs killed E-Bay. Rock Auto probably doubled their business because of the tariffs. Heard about these tariffs, and I loaded up on a lot of stuff before they went into effect..... Should be good for a while.
