As far as the A/C goes for the F-150 I have been in many and each one felt like I was in a refrigerater.

No they're not.

Everytime I see you post, I think of this. No offense. But down south is loaded with these "crown vic-22s."

By the way, Chevy/GM. I know too many guys who have switch from a ford to a chevy and said "Wow, now that's a Truck."

I saw 6 Crown Vics with 22's just this weekend in Miami Beach.

If no torque and the same fuel economy is your idea of an "amazing balance of power and MPG", then I would have to agree. But in my book, the 5.4 is a much better truck engine and it responds to basic performance upgrades (tune/CAI/exhaust) notably better.

This is easy. Ford.

I can give all kinds of anecdotal personal and profesional experience. I could talk about growing up a Chevy guy. Or having a love for the Toyota process.

Seeing how you are looking for e regular cab for your dad you are looking for a utilitarian vehicle. The Ford has that on the Chevy.

They are the best selling truck because Chevy and GMC are figured separate. If they were combined, GM would sell more trucks than Ford.

That's actually false. even with the sales totals of Chevy and GMC combined ford out sells them. There have even been months in the past that ford outsold Chevy, GMC and dodge combined.

I had an '03 Silverado Ex cab Z71 5.3L and now have an '03 F150 Ex cab FX4 5.4L. They are both nice trucks. My Silverado was pretty snappy, but with a 3.06:1 first gear and 3.73 axles, I expected it to be. However, even with 3.55's, my Ford is no slouch. Things change when you toss a load on though. Towing the same load (specifically, my trail Jeep on a 20ft trailer), my Ford has more lower end grunt than my 5.3L Chevy did. That's not to say that the Chevy had a hard time, just that the Ford has an easier time (my personal observation).

Anyway, having owned both, I would look for a nice Ford.

I can't remember which mag-(Car/Driver, Motor Trend)tested the new Ford with 5.4, vs Chevy and Dodge, but the Ford came in dead last in towing.

As for "support" the message boards are full of stories of Ford's less than 3 years old with 40k or less with engine/tranny failures that Ford wouldn't kick in 1 cent of help on (before the 60k powertrain).

Did I mention the GM has 100k powertrain coverage?

Frankly, either one will serve you well. Most conversations on this topic will end up in some sort of brand flame war.

I will freely admit I am biased towards the Fords, but thats what happens after nearly 350,000 miles on my last (97 F150, sold with 163,000) and my current F150 ('99 F150 with 178,000 currently on the odometer).

In generalities, Ford tends to build a heavier, more work oriented product while GM has typically produced a more "peppy" and comfortable ride. They both will work and work well. In our work fleet, we buy an occasional Chevy for one reason or another (such as a need for a Suburban) and just to verify we are still getting what we need from Ford and there isn't a better mousetrap out there. We still have not found a reason to switch the truck fleet over to GM from Ford, but also haven't noted huge issues either. So, we stick wioth what we know. GM's tend to get slightly better fuel mileage historically, as their engines were tuned for more car like performance (admitidly how most trucks are used today)and their trucks were overall lighter.

My trucks are not fast and are not hot rods. I can guarantee that they will work hard ang get the job doen though without too much fuss. My F150's have been the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned, and considering how they have worked at times, that is an accomplishement by itself!

If I were buying new, I'd stay as far away from Government Motors as I could for personal beliefs. For a used vehicle, given you want a work style truck, I'd look to see what I can find first, and it may become a case of finding what you want, and accept whatever brand you find the deal in.

I work for a big oil company and I've seen the difference between Ford and Chevy trucks first hand in what would be considered extreme conditions to most. These things are run overloaded over very rough terrain by drivers that could care less about the truck. I like Fords and I'm not trying to bash here but under the extreme conditions here at work, the Chevys last longer, hold alignments better, and the Fords have a fatal flaw where the frame eventually breaks just to the rear of the front wheels. Our fleet of Ford trucks are replaced every two years. The main recurring problem we had with the Chevys were fuel pumps going out. We do, however use F150s exclusively now. Someone must've gotten a heck of a deal.

I doubt anyone would experience any of these problems in normal driving since you would have to hate your truck to replicate the conditions.

You are literally the first person I have ever seen that has noticed issues with Ford frames.

All of the fleet Chevys I have dealt with have been overrun with electrical issues, not to mention their basic construction is notably flimsier in every respect.

I have never seen frame issues with either, but Ford has had the larger frame rails in half-tons since '97.

Similar situation for me. I'm in Petro-Chem and the Corp. leases/buys F150s based on price. They're beat and maintenance allowances are very sparse. The newer ones seem to hold up as good as any. Again, to me, they're just not as comfortable nor get the MPG a Silverado does.

That right there says all that needs be said. Bottom line is both Ford and GM, and Dodge as well, all make excellent trucks. They all have their pros and cons but on the whole all 3 are excellent choices.

This brand loyalty from some who insist all other brands are junk just makes no sense to me? I am a diehard MOPAR guy who has owned some 7 Dodge Rams but I have owned a couple Chevy's as well( best MPG of the FS trucks )including one of the new body styles( 2007 model )and they are great trucks. My brother is a die hard Ford guy so I have a lot of experience with Ford trucks and I even worked in Ford parts and service at a dealer. Ford makes a great truck as well.

Chevy, Ford, Dodge it doesn't really matetr. Pick the one you are most comfortable driving and that meets your needs best. There is no huge gap between them.

My father is a Big Man. He is 6'8" and 350#. He doesn't test drive trucks and has no brand loyalty. He tries a truck on. He had a 2006 Silverado on lease but it has sat idle since he bought a 2005 F150(surplus oilfield)since it fits him better.

Good example of priorities. His comfort is number one. Some folks may like one over the other becaus eit "fits" them better physically or by needs or purpose. Go try them on and pick.

If they were equal I'd buy the Ford because they didn't take my tax dollars to fix a problem that they caused.

Actually, I'm 6'5" and the Ford's gas pedal was a little too close for me. The Chevy was noticeably better for legroom. I traded a Dodge for Chevy because I didn't like Dodge's gas mileage. Reliability was good, though. The Dodge impressed me as a well made truck.

They didn't cause all of their problems. The trade policies as well as gas prices had a lot to do with it. I still prefer GM. I don't hold the bailout against them, personally.
