Ford MC Filters Getting A Update

Linked PDF shows that the FL-2119-B12 & FL-2122-B12 (Original Equipment: FL1A and FL820SB12) are not eCore center tubes with metal end caps. The eCore models are not metal end caps.

Also, looks like the base plate bypass valve in now gone ... so probably not really an "upgrade" in that respect.

I had no idea.

What’s the consensus on this, is it a upgrade from the old 820s?
I would liken them more to the Super Tech 20K & Champ XL-Ecore (or possibly metal) center tube, synblend media construction, silicone ADBV, either metal or fiber endcap. Considering the past tearing issues with the Purolator Motorcraft FL820S filters, I would consider them an upgrade.

The 910s and the 810a (the older ones, not the newer ones in the ad above) were both at 80% for 20 microns. I got that confirmed in an email to motorcraft parts division. I have no idea what the newer ones are; if they aren't advertising their newer filters as being more efficient, they're probably not. Which isn't a complaint. I would be using them if they didn't have an issue with cuts into the ADBVs.

So I wonder what their definition of high efficiency media is?

And they can’t change these, I’ve got them all and their Fram number equivalents memorized!

They will most likely meet USCAR-36 since Motorcraft has been touting that for many years. USCAR-36 says the efficiency has to me at least 95% @ 30 microns (not hard to meet). Being that the updated FL-2121-B12, for the FL-500S is now an eCore with bonded fiber end caps, I think most will be looking for a different filter before going with the updated Motorcraft.

Well, even more of my knowledge has become useless. I’ve known tons of MC filter numbers, many of their applications even non Ford and their cross references for many years now. But the times they are a changing.

Thanks for the info guys.

I put a order in for a 12 pack of FL820S filters.

Having second thoughts about the FL820S with all you here about the tears and now excess glue residue, etc.

Seems the only thing going for them is the base end bypass and the low cost…

Thoughts?

Per the PDF linked in post #1, the updated Motorcraft FL-2122-B12 that replaces the FL-820S has a metal center tube and metal end caps. Just doesn't have the base end bypass, but apparently Ford is not that concerned about it anymore, otherwise they would have retained the base end bypass design.
