Any long term feedback on these direct injection engines? I'm interested in getting a Fusion hatchback, but was curious if these direct injection engines still suffer from the same past issues.

There is no meaningful data on this particular model because there aren't many out there yet.

Some DI have serious issues, some don't.

I know it's not the same engine but I've got it's bigger brother and at 45k no issues other than a bum knock sensor. Still runs smooth and strong.

Have 22k on a 3.5l ecoboost and no problems. Gets the advertised mileage. The sticker average mpg was dead on.

That really surprises me, as we've had 3 of the V6 EB motors in our family. Even the one owned by my 70+ FIL only gets about 17 in the city. He even took it back and complained to no avail.

They do much better on the highway. But none of ours ever got the placard mpg.

Sticker says 17 mpg combined city/highway.... 17 'mpg city on a truck is still good and beating the sticker city mpg of 15. Last weekend going 60 mph I got 22mpg but was calm out. the big difference for me is Running E0, increased by 1.5-2mpg. My average is around 18 when it's not winter.

We operate a 2011 F150 ecoboost. The 3.5L engine seems to be significantly smoother and more "tick" free with M1 EP oil vs standard M1 or Valvoline syn. Not sure why. The truck has done a number of trips up and down the East coast. So, frequent oil changes are the norm.

Interestingly, the 3.5L will start idling roughly when an oil change is due. Even though the oil life monitor shows remaining life.

I suspect oil dilution, or degradation, or a combo of both. We seem to be able to get 6500-7500 miles per oil change.
