What about those sockets with dozens of pins in them? I don't know how much torque they can take. But they're supposed to conform to odd shapes well

Yes. Doughnut Media did a YouTube video where they tested these (they tested several items in the video, not just this). I'm guessing that you can find more videos where they show these failing badly. I wonder if Project Farm has tested them?

I had a 1986 Bronco II (serious POS but that's another story) that had that problem. Also a 2011 F150, same problem. My 2018 F150 had three lug nuts chewed up by a careless tire shop last month so I didn't wait for the rest to go. Dorman nuts will last the life of the truck but they aren't cheap.

It's hard to believe that the same problem still goes on after 36 years.
