Ford already stated clearly a few months ago that they are not planning to do any redesign on the Fusion. Trying to sell an outdated platform in 2022 is not going to be very successful when all the competitors will be selling new designs.


I was just making fun of it. What are the chances of Ford staying out of ALL of the car markets for very long? Seems kind of like some sort of ploy I don't fully understand just yet.

This is the third thread on this I've commented in.
First, Ford's days as a global player are long since past, so Ford has no deep bench from which it can pull models should the economy, the price of fuel or fashions change.
Second, there is both a recessions and a fuel price spike ahead, although we don't know when.
Third, one of the dirty little secrets of truck-think is that they aren't very entertaining to drive.
For the average SUV or pickup owner, even a Fusion would be revelatory in terms of driving enjoyment, especially on roads that feature corners.
IMO, Ford is making a serious mistake and we'll see the family lose control of the company in the next recession, which will be within the next few years.

I drive about 10 minutes each way in order to fill up at a Shell for ANY price (but it IS also one of the least costly Shells for VPower within 20 miles of here), vs, the much closer (3 minutes away) Putie/oligarch owned, Lukoil, which I would not use even if it were $1.50/gallon less than the Shell.

They don’t? I’m seeing the Fiesta is one of the top selling cars in all of Europe. Ford also has 3 of the top 10 selling vehicles in the UK.

Ford’s huge European division is precisely why they CAN stop selling cars in the North America. They’ll still have modern, highly developed small cars ready to bring back to North America if they need to.

Well to paraphrase someone else, that's why they're Ford and you're not.

It's not for you to understand what they do. They're taking a gamble, it may or may not work out for them. No decision is also a decision. They're not completely out of it, they're just going to go from 5 cars down to 2 cars. If demand ever picks up for those cars, they could always ramp up production by adding a 2nd or 3rd shift and people will just end up buying whatever is available.

They're basically pursing a legitimate business strategy. Abandoning markets where they're losing money. Retail stores do it all the time by closing under performing stores whereas when they're first opened, it's all about getting market share and dealing with short term losses. At some point it's time to cut your losses and focus on your strengths. It's well know that the margins in cars are pretty slim while they're pretty hefty in SUV/trucks.

Fiesta and Taurus sales were pretty small. Focus and Fusion sales were kinda decent though so maybe the new Focus Active will get a combination of both Focus and Fusion sales.

Do you know how many of those Fiestas are built in the UK?
Zero would be the correct number, since Ford hasn't built a car in the UK in more than fifteen years, and this from a company with UK production going back to the Model T.
Ford Australia?
Gone.
Ford China?
A bit player in this vital and rapidly growing market.
Ford Korea?
Ford played a formative role in the nurturing of both Hyundai and Kia and then lost it all to Hyundai.
Ford's grand plans to enter the higher end market with its purchases of Aston Martin, Volvo, Land Rover and Jaguar proved to be a money losing dead end while it's also lost its controlling interest in Mazda, which has been a very important source of engine designs for Ford.
Ford's global reach is but a shadow of what it once had.
Both of the Henrys must be rolling over in their graves.

Every once in a while I think about getting a sports car. Then I remember that we have about one slight bend in the road every hundred miles.
