I'm with you on the 5w-20 being too thin, especially with those low clearance rings.

If you're moving up for more protection, there's hardly a difference between API/ILSAC 20 and 30 oils where HTHS is concerned. Switch to Euro oils if you want something significantly more viscous.

Anecdotally:
I use both, 20 and 30 in the Malibu 1.5T. But that's because i have lots of 30 around the house.

Don’t have it anymore. But 1.5T Ecoboost with 117K miles on mostly syn blend 5W20 changed around 7-8K miles. Ran fine lease was just up. And it didn’t live a babied existence.

You went on 117K on a lease? What did that cost you at turn in?

I would think ford would recommend a 5w30 in a turbo engine.

Nothing. It’s part of a fleet program at work. I do pay for the vehicle monthly but there is no penalty on mileage.
