For those that advocate 10K miles OCI

Here is another data point. This is my Prius at 515,000 miles when I had to replace the head gasket. (fairly common issue) 2010 with the 1.8 (video is the older generation with the 1.5). I don't even think about changing the oil before 10k, many times has gone over 15k. Very rarely does it see the specified 0w20. Hundreds of thousands of miles have been on Pennzoil 10w30 platinum. Bought a couple hundred quarts at AAP for 65 cents a quart years ago. Lots of miles (150k?) on cheap clearance Magnatec 5w20 also.
Full disclosure - this car gets driven at least 200 miles a day on days that it is driven. No short trips really. 4k to 6k per month average. YMMV

Yours is the textbook case for extended drain intervals.

The problem with videos like this is, they don't present any data, just opinion. When you consider this "opinion" comes from someone who makes money from people paying him for car maintenance, it becomes suspect.
I say to each his own but always employ critical thinking and consider the source of all information.
You missed the whole point, this was addressed mainly to the DIY, how does he as a Toyota Tech benefit?

I like "The Car Care Nut" even for non Toyota/Lexus vehicles. I agree with him on many fronts and I have indeed taken a vehicle to 300,000 miles(actually 340K miles/18 years) but, it wasn't easy living here in the North East.

Alternator, Gas Tank & Radiator were the largest parts that I had to replace along with the occasional brakes, suspension & exhaust parts. Finally the rust from winter road salt took its toll on the chassis causing the car to be unsafe to drive. I had another 2 cars that were in similar situations but with only ~170K-200K miles(16 & 17 yrs respectively) but here too, the road salt got to their chassis as well.

I believe that if I lived in an area that didn't experience winter, I could keep my vehicles much longer with fewer issues/replacement parts. Especially if I had that known/reputable reliable vehicle, live in a warmer climate and the car has me for an owner, who knows how far it could go?
I realize that in the south & PNW that there is such thing as (((HEAT))) and sun damage but, I would also keep the vehicle garaged whenever possible.

This is at least the 3rd time this video has been posted.

Toyota has issues with rings, so I would not take this as applicable to properly engineered rings.
I'm glad it was posted though. I'd never seen it before and found it very helpful. Something I'll use for reference going forward.

How often do people try to blame engine problems on the OCI? Toyota does specify what severe service is. Why is the OP's video taking things into his own hands and telling everyone to do shorter OCI? The oil loss issues need to be first proven to be caused by the 10k mile OCI.

I don't know if this qualifies as proof to you, but in other videos he has stated that Toyotas that go 10K OCIs are more likely to have oil consumption issues, compared to the same cars that are changing oil every 5K. He has stated that he is seeing this even with the newer Toyotas with 0w16 oil. He is seeing this at work, and also has family experience that supports this.

Conversely, how can you prove that it doesn't. We all know that the same engine in different parts of the world has shorter OCIs, this was done to please mainly the North American Consumer who's reluctant to spend on maintenance and who keeps the vehicle for a shorter time than elsewhere.
