I have a relative’s vehicle that calls for 0W20 oil - a quick online look at Walmart it would appear M1 0W20 ESP is the best available 0W20 synthetic oil option at Walmart for best base stock , approvals , wear control , keeping an engine clean , full OCI protection or any other yardstick of measure you want to throw at it for a 5K - 7K mile OCI … Do you agree or do you beleve there is a better made 0W20 synthetic off the shelf oil at Walmart that you prefer for typical , less than 10K mile OCI’s ?

With no other info about the type of vehicle, I would most likely get Valvoline Hybrid (assuming your Walmart carries it). I base that off the assumption the vehicle probably has the common API/ILSAC spec and is direct injected, so I would want the viscosity (KV100 of around 9.0 CST and 2.78 for HTHS) and anti-dilution properties this oil offers over the other API/ILSAC oils on the shelf.

And you asked this question yourself not too long ago: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/0w20-oil-choice-considerations.338698/

I don’t believe the new M1 ESP was available then nor was PUP on the shelf at Walmart as it is now … Thanks .

When Alice in Wonderland asks the Cheshire Cat which way she ought to go, the Cat responds that it depends on where she wants to go. When Alice says she doesn't care, the Cat quickly replies, "Then it doesn't matter which way you go".

Castol Edge Extended Performance because there is currently a $10 Venmo or PayPal rebate. Good a reason as any without details on vehicle, conditions, weather, etc.

I recall in a statistics course that I took many, many years ago, the correct answer to a lot of the questions that the instructor asked was "it depends". It seems that the correct answer to your question is, it depends.

Is the car you are servicing high mileage? If yes, I would say that Valvoline Restore and Protect would be the best 0W-20. Low mileage, or it has already had two or three consecutive oil changes with Valvoline Restore and Protect, then I would say Mobil 1 ESP would be the best, unless you are one of those that has some personal grudge against Mobil 1. Then I would say that Pennzoil Ultra Platinum would be the best. Ultra Platinum can be difficult to find sometimes, in which case I would say, get over your personal grudge and use Mobil 1 ESP.

The wife got Mobil Bulk 0W20 at a dealer OC recently - the motor sounds like it likes it. And it has good cold start performance and low racket - me being in her car for a few trips starting out below 10 deg F recently. Brrr!
I didn't know if this would be a Mobil Super equivalent. I didn't ask to see the bulk tank invoice. Maybe next time I am there I might.
The previous oil was Valvoline Maxlife HM 0W20 - I like the bulk Mobil better from limited exposure.

Interesting that people don't mention Mobil 1 Extended Performance anymore. And it looks like that oil was allover the threads like an 1-2 years (and more) ago.
It's still good as long as one slashes the mileage claim on the bottle but when esp or edge ep have approvals for better wear protection (wear test limits in mb229.71) it's hard to recommend it when something that's most likely better is next to it and costs less.
