Is there any car with MSRP under $50k can do 0-60 MPH under 4 seconds in stock form ? You're talking about double or more that MSRP to get under 4 seconds.

Like boxing, there are class for various weights, the best welter weight could never in the ring to battle the bottom 1000th heavy weight. He would on the floor in less than a minute.

A FWD with 2L turbo can do 5.7s 0-60 MPH and top speed above 160 MPH is very fast for the class.

A prototype Civic Type-R did 7 minutes 50.63 seconds at the Ring few months ago. This time is faster than a number of notable cars:
Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series
Jaguar XKR-S
Ford GT
Porsche Panamera Turbos S
Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4
Mercedes CLK DTM
Porsche 911 GT3
Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R
Ferrari F430
Subaru WRX STI
Caterham R500 1.8L K Series
BMW M5

That under 4 second comment was made slightly in jest. Before Tesla 85D, you needed a *lot* more money to reach under 4 second 0-60 times!

I still stand by my previous assertion that 5.7 seems to be artificially low for this car.

We will see when fast and furious guys get their hands on it!
 
I think 5.7 sec to 60 is slow for 300 HP RWD that weight around 3,000 lbs or less, but this Civic Type-R is FWD so the initial launch at zero would take a while for the car to move. Also, this 5.7 seconds is manufacture number and usually they are conservative.

+1, I always evaluate high spec cars with experience based on a lower spec version. Focus is truly a great hatch IMO, Civic even doesn't come close. Oh and that looks, cartoon like.

You're probably little old to dislike the Civic hot hatch Type-R. The younger crowd seems to don't care about its look.

Personally, I don't like the current styling of Civic Type-R either. If Honda bring this Type-R style into US it will not sell well here.

Yeah, it wasn't Tesla that changed it.

The 5 second barrier wasn't a big deal probably going back to the late 90s or early 2000s.
 
There is a LOT of difference between a 3.7 vs 5.7 0-60 times! Tell me about a late 90s or early 2000 car with 4.7 second 0-60 time.

I'm not sure why all of a sudden you are asking for 4.7. If you meant sub 5s 0-60 times, I'm sure there were many. The first off the top of my head would be M3. I think they were around 4.6s in 2001.

2001 BMW M5 0-60: 4.7 seconds- September 2001 Car and Driver

The rags just cannot drive at all, so they listed my car's 0-60 as something like 5.2 or so, as well as a pitiful 1/4 mile time for this ride.

ANYONE who could drive worth a d**n could get these things to an EASY sub-5 second 0-60, and a low 13/high 12 second 1/4 mile in decent conditions, even on the factory Goodyear GS-Cs.

I paid < $20K for mine, shipping, dealer prep, and tax included, and mine might have been even a tiny bit quicker than most given that it is a no option, lighter weight, 'stripped' car.
