Fluid showing in new Honda

Hi everyone. I did an initial oil change today in my 26 Honda HRV at 1900 miles. I meant to do it sooner but without a garage winter maintenance is hard.

I found this tacky yellow fluid in the bottom side of what I think is the transmission. Any ideas?

That's a bummer. You say it's sticky, is there any wet fluid there? I'd clean the area and keep an eye on it. Could be some kind of sealant slopped on.

Wipe it down and monitor.

As stated, clean it off and monitor. Looks like a fluid leak, tans or engine.

Possible casting flaw. Leak appears to originate to the left of this bolt.

You can see in one of the pictures where I placed my finger on the fluid and removed it. I didn’t wipe the surface but it came right off.

This is where I touched the fluid. It almost looks like there are even more cracks in this area.

Tacky? How about cosmoline or some other type of rust preventative that was on the trans/engine before assembly? Looks almost like a body cavity wax. Gets hot and migrates out.

I've seen similar castings and it's just a crazed/imperfect surface from manufacturing. Not saying yours isn't cracked though just be aware it might look worse than it really is.

I was thinking the same. Touch it, to tell if it's oily or sticky and waxy.

Honda has always had what appear to be cracks in their castings. 99.99999999999% of the time they are nothing more than lines in the aluminum from the casting process and not cracks.

I think it’s the gasket that seems to be involved with the stained areas.

Possibly residual from rear main seal install. I would clean off area and recheck at next oil change.

Document it with the dealer. Clean it up and monitor. Isn't that odd color of the CVT fluid?
