Flew on a brand new American 787-900

Regarding noise, the planes generally accepted as most quiet in their respective class is the A380 and the A220. I certainly have no complaints on the 787.
Yeah, the A220 is quiet.

Anything that takes that long to start its engines better be more efficient and quieter 🙂

I am not sensitive to sounds but I would like to understand, which airline (airplane) that you guys have flown that were noisy? I have NEVER experienced a noisy airplane...

before the age of 12, as a family, we would fly internationally 3-4 times a year, granted there was a big gap in flying from 1999-2013, I just haven't came across noisy airplanes.
I was on an Embraer 145 years ago that was loud.

An atrocious little airplane that I used to commute on, often.

The only seat worth booking was 18A, exit row, on the single aisle side. Everything else had you crammed into the person next to you.

The E145 could carry one of the following:

1. Full passenger load.
2. Their luggage.
3. Fuel for an alternate.

But only one.

Oddly enough, we'll be flying one of these DAY-IAD under United Express branding for our flight IAD-VCE in July.
I've always liked these little Embraers. Much better than a six abreast 737 or A320 and we never saw any problems with useful load on the flights we've taken on them, with no pax or bags left behind.

Then you haven’t flown them much.

I’ve been left at the gate every time for three months in a row. Reckon that was 20 successive attempts - and they went out with empty seats, and denied boarding, because they need alternate fuel for IAD.

You sure you are on an E145? And not an E175?

The E145 is too short for me to stand up, fully, in the aisle. The seat width is noticeably smaller, and my shoulders do not fit within the width of my seat, so when in the C/D seats, I am either pressed against the person next to me, or leaning into aisle, hence my preference for the A seats.

And I have watched them leave passengers at the gate all the time, with empty seats, because they couldn't carry alternate fuel and passengers both. A truly execrable little jet that would probably be fine with 34 seats in it, one on each side of the aisle. Then it would have enough weight capacity to bring their bags, and a bit of fuel.

The E175 is a really nice airplane by comparison.

Edit: you’re on a 145 XR.

Guess what Embraer did in making that jet - they upped the weight capability! What a concept…

According to the booking on UAL's site, it'll be a 145.
Won't be very full, I would guess. Nobody flies to IAD from DAY except for international connections.
If one were flying to DC, one would use DCA.

145XR - which has an increased weight capability.

So you went to the trouble of looking it up?
Thanks!
We get to fly UAL to VCE on a 767, a plane we've always like flying on.
Anyway, we get to return from TBS (open jaw booking) on partner Lufthansa through FRA and FRA-IAD will be a 747 8i, a plane I wanted to fly on.
We'll fly from SAW to TBS on a Pegasus A321.

Luckily I was on N845MD which seems to be doing just fine.

I hope you got Polaris seats! 😉

The 767 to Venice is what we call “high J”. That means it has 46 first class seats available, one of which is set aside for pilots on the length of that flight, and that’s what makes us the money with that airplane. The premium economy and economy plus are nice, but we make or break on the 45 first class seats that we sell.

That said, the airplane is relatively fast, .80 - .82 cruise, relatively quiet, and the premium economy and economy plus seats are pretty nice. Be prepared for very limited overhead space, because, while the interior was updated, the bins themselves date back to 1995 when we took delivery of the Jets.

There were a lot fewer people bringing carry-on luggage because back then, wheels on luggage were not yet popular.

I would love to fly on the 747–8. I loved my time on the 747–400, and I genuinely miss that big jet. Venice is a wonderful city.

This sounds like a great trip, and I hope you have a terrific time.

Is it reasonable to assume you are a guest at Jeff Bezos wedding?

If we were, I doubt that we'd be flying commercial.
Booking this as an open-jaw itinerary made it unbelievably cheap, and UAL does offer senior discount rates.
Pegasus is one of Turkish Airlines low cost subsidiaries.
