Firsts in Automotive History. They left out the Duryea; the first US made gas powered car. But lots of interesting Trivia!

I my local area the answer would be the James Hill car. Just a few miles from away in Fleetwood, PA. James Hill built a steam powered auto in the early 1870's. Said to be conceived at age 13 in 1868 and on the streets a few years later. After many complaints and a ban, he parked it a few years, then fitted it with a one cyl. ICE. I believe it was US patented at that time. Eventually, a two cyl. ICE. The Hill car has been on loan to the Boyertown PA. Museum of historic vehicles.

The Duryea engines and autos were produced a short distance away in Reading, PA after 1900. The Boyertown Museum has a number of them, last I was there. The road ascending My. Penn in Reading was the test track for the Duryea and bears the name today. Two sports car hill climbs are held there every year. The first one is being held this weekend.
