Hi, I found out about BITOG from a friend of mine. So far the things I'm reading are very informative and I'm learning the importance and difference of oils.
I originally use the cheapest and whatever was available oil. But then after awhile I started using only plain Jane yellow Pennzoil. My friend was raving about how his oil is purple and said its soo awesome and increased his engines hp, and feels so much better. I was very skeptical and gave it a try. So I got a case of Royal Purple and tried it out. So far its working great. I do notice the engine is much quieter and smoother. The idle doesn't lope as much, and it revs alot smoother. I'm still in the process of seeing how my engine responds to it. But so far so good.
The other oil I'm trying is the Pennzoil Platinum. I tried it because I had good experience with the mineral oil from Pennzoil. I also noticed a huge difference in smoothness immediately over the mineral oil. And same as the Royal Purple in over all characteristics. However I'm starting to notice that after 1000 miles or so it is not as smooth. The Royal Purple seems to remain smoother longer than the Pennzoil Platinum. I'm on my second oil change with Pennzoil Platinum, and I noticed that the oil ends up pretty dark. I do oil changes every 3k miles including filter every 3k miles. I haven't changed the Royal Purple yet. But so far the oil seems cleaner than the Platinum at the same amount of mileage and use.
What are your takes and views on the Pennzoil Platinum. It seems cheaper than many other synthetic oils and pretty available in my area. Maybe I'll try a different filter. I'm currently using a Fram filter.
And I've been trying to find this Green Castrol that my friend spoke of. Says it's hard to find. Do any of the members here know a place that would carry it in South Florida?
Again Hi. ^_^
