Are you guys missing what he said?

He said "he had a ton of oil" he is trying to use up, and you want him to buy more??

OP wants a 40 grade, has tested a 40 grade.

My offering would get him a 40 grade at around 30% treat rate, with an option that is FULLY additised, and being oil will give more predictable results than bottles of gloop of unknown composition.

What predictability is there in the additives that you are offering ?

Can you demonstrate a treat rate that will offer a 40 grade with any sort of predictability ?

I'm using that oil at around 15% (1 litre in 6 total)...as an additive, I just buy it in 5L jugs for $40 (5 oil changes, $8 each, and obviously displacing another $8 of oil in the process)...rather than adding a $20 additive on top of the regular oil change.

Get it ?

I know people who swear by STP oil additive or Rislone and have been using them for years ... they both have very good reviews on amazon and online ... STP has zddp and moly? and it's very thick like honey! Rislone is thin or like regular oil. One guy told me it reduced ticking in his car. The sell like crazy! Even Wal-Mart sells both so they are popular!

Having said that and iirc, molakule said no need for them in couple of different threads ...
You shouldn't argue with experts unless you know what you are talking about

What predictability? Those products I mentioned thicken the oil. Period. They have done so for many decades. This is not rocket science, The OP wants to thicken his oil and these will do it, at a minimal cost $4-$5, not "$20"! Last thing with someone wanting "to use up a ton of oil" wants to do is buy more, especially when a quick, easy, cheap solution is at hand. You can continue to argue all you want. My advice to the OP stands. Got it?

Schaeffer's #132 will thicken up oil, but not for $4 or $5. I'm not sure on the predictability of the final grade either. It would be my choice though, much better than STP or Lucas OS.

The real answer is to sell the 10W30 and buy some 40wt oil. Much less hassle and you be done doctoring oil quicker. Hopefully you got a bunch of the 10W30 on sale/clearance and so you can put an attractive price in it and not lose money on the deal. Should be way cheaper than adding $4-$5 per 6qt fill

This. Dumping Group 1 bright stock with tackifier in it is certainly a far less wise idea.

Don't use any STP or Lucas type junk..
Just because it sells a bunch at WM is no recommendation .
I would just buy a jug of ST 20-50 and mix in a qt with each change.
Use as top offs also if you want.
There are many ways to use up your stash without going to snake oil.

Reason not to go nuts buying oil. Its an old car, carry a couple qts in the trunk and check every fill up.Sell. trade donate your thin stuff. I wonder if anyone has bought a car to suit their oil stash ?
