Had alot of parts to wear out in 5 years and 12k but this is first part to break on the $400 Nishiki Manitoba. The selector is stuck in 1st gear. It's interesting trying to figure out which gear. New part is $15 which is the whole thing. Maybe I'll get used to it and not change it we'll see. Still shifts fine.

You're not so good at taking pictures or explaining stuff to people, are you? What broke? One of the spokes? The brake lever? The shifter thing? Your fuzzy brown thing with the shoelace hanging out of it? The bottom corner of your cubicle at work?

Are you just trying to ask which type of lube you should be using?

None of the above. There's a rip in the carpeting just out of the view of the camera....

I'm surprised at the darts from the peanut gallery, your message was clear enough to me.
I'd say you can't complain after 5 years and 12k miles. But watch out for the less obvious wear, for example have you checked and serviced the bearings (wheels, bottom bracket, headset)?

No idea maybe a forum issue.. everyone is so quick to be snippy.

Oh yeah it's already had one bottom bracket, the wheel bearings typically every year. Haven't did the headset yet, who needs to turn anyways? lol I ride this through all weather, I've ridden through water up to the bottom bracket several times.

Some road guys here don't like MTB guys. I think it's a popularity thing. So many MTB places here and such.

But I started this because neither of us have gear indicators.
Does the higher end models not have them? I'm thinking about a Salsa and it even has one. Either removed it or single speeders?

FWIW, I've only seen shift position indicators on lower end bikes. I'm surprised to hear that a Salsa has one.
