What a turd for get up and go…Beat-up 78 Fairmont with the 200 straight-six, and all I recall is it was the Fram the parts house sold me. Probably a PH8.

You have no idea... or maybe you do. Someone had messed up the vacuum hoses, it had a cracked block by the front corner, and I had to beat on the starter with a 2x4 some of the time to make it work. It had a natural speed limiter (aka a death wobble in the front end) that kept me from going too fast. But it was my first car, so there was that... The '68 Volvo I replaced it with could run rings around it. I think I put a stubby little Pennzoil filter on that car, but I just recall for sure it was yellow. It had about 200k on it when I sold it. That car is the one I regret selling the most after all of these years. What a turd for get up and go…
My friend in college had a 77 Grenada…Inconceivably slow, even with a “V8”You have no idea... or maybe you do. I can’t think of any V8 engines made in 1977 that made more than 250 horsepower unless it was in something exotic. In fact most of them were less than 200 horsepower. It was a sad time periodMy friend in college had a 77 Grenada…Inconceivably slow, even with a “V8”
The first gen American cars with catatonic diverters, EGR, and AIR pumps. Draconian Gov mandated design rather than just letting the engineers meet the spec.I can’t think of any V8 engines made in 1977 that made more than 250 horsepower unless it was in something exotic. My trunk wells were perpetually oily from spare cardboard oil cans, which tended to leakFram oil filter around 1980. Still used the steel spout for the cardboard? oil can. Quaker State of course, 10w40.

Leaks just enough to keep the rust away. At least that's what I tell myself about my Bronco's transmission & transfer caseMy trunk wells were perpetually oily from spare cardboard oil cans, which tended to leak
