This is confusing, but can be explained.
There are 2 "discount tires" on the internet. One is "
https://www.discounttire.com/ " which is the one you used. That one is with their physical stores, so you are really ordering tires to be put on by them, usually after being shipped to their own Discount Tire shops.
Therefore, you don't have to pay until you walk into the store itself. I used them a month ago to get Kumho Ecsta 4x II tires, and that website was actually cheaper than their "sister" website, which I discuss below:
I recently (last week) used "
https://www.discounttiredirect.com/ " ... notice the difference in the URL name? That one is direct to you, the other is associated strongly with their brick-and-mortar stores. When I ordered 4 General GMAX AS-05 tires they did not charge me sales tax, I got them via UPS at my home (free shipping), and then I had an independent tire shop install them.
No sales tax, no shipping, and General's mail-in rebate to help too.
Between the two, the
prices are different. Its not the same. So shop both and decide. Its also confusing because the Kumho's I got through their store website (discountire.com) was actually cheaper than the "direct mail" (discountiredirect.com) website. Although that is rare; usually the direct site is cheaper.

Great tire, but the best deal on really long-lasting, name brand tires has to be Walmart's Goodyear Outlast tires, which look to be about the same as the Goodyear Maxlife tires sold everywhere else. Its hard to beat Walmart's price most of time. I went to Discount Tire (& DC Direct ) because they happened to have the tires I really wanted at great prices, but it will vary depending on which brand you target on your wish list.
