Finally seeing Havoline at my Wal Mart

You misinterpreted me. I wasn't trying to be a buzz kill. I'm sincerely asking why you're excited about it? I was asking why you like it? I'd like to know your reasons because I might learn new things from you.

Offending you was not my intention. I think that was a misunderstanding.

Which Havoline oil did you buy? Synthetic? Pro DS?
It's the BITOG way: getting attacked for asking innocuous questions. I've been attacked for saying good things about Amsoil and asking questions about Amsoil. My thread simply asking questions about people's experiences on Supertech was just shut down without explanation. It's impressive actually, the gymnastics people will perform to be offended. Bunch of snowflakes, the lot of ya here.

But you were.

This is a motor oil forum. Some members can and will get excited about the availability of a certain product, as the OP was. And that's irrelevant to the technical merits of such.

No, you were not. You didn't even wait for the OP's answer to your question, but started yakking (as usual) about past experiences using a similar product. A yakking the OP didn't ask for.
You know, the vast majority of you folks would be better off if you just took people's word at face value here. I completely understood what @Carlostrece was asking and why.

You all should read this and learn it and practice it: rhetorical principle of charity.

BITOG is usually good. Sometimes misunderstandings happen. I should have thought ahead before posting my question. If I had thought it through, I could have foreseen potential misunderstandings that my phrasing of the question caused. I could/should have tried to phrase my question better or more diplomatically, if possible.

I already apologized to the OP by way of explaining of my intentions. The misunderstanding is in the past. Let's please let it go. I've already moved on.

This > rhetorical principle of charity is great advice we should all follow. Well said there. That's the best explanation I've seen of that communication principle.

However, while I appreciate your support and good intentions, the brief dust up was already over days ago. It's far in the rear view mirror. Let's please move on.

Back on topic... Havoline (if there's anything left to say about it).

Nailed it!

If your interpretation is accurate - the question was worded very poorly.

Why get excited about Havoline? Am I missing something?

When asked in this manner its generally interpreted on the internet "why on earth would you get excited about that?" and interpreted as sarcastic. That is the way I interpreted it as well, even though I did answer his question - albeit with some initial sarcasm.

Rather than "Should I be excited about this", or "I don't understand why this is exciting, please explain", or something to that affect.

Mis-communication maybe. But its a forum, we can't read peoples minds - they need to explain them. 🤷‍♂️

Chevron is one of the very few companies that produces its own base oil and additives. I’ve heard the in house testing facility is impressive.
Did Walmarts Havoline contract come and go? It seems like they had it for years then poof it was gone.

Yep, even when I do that, not enough.

I am discussing this thread very specifically, and I was specifically involved in this thread. I read the quote in question and even responded to it. I can only comment on what I perceived, but I did perceive that comment to be sarcasm.

If you feel you were wronged elsewhere then thats a different topic.

Also, its up to the author doing the writing to convey their message. If others interpret it differently your free to ignore them or correct the record for others.

You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time.

And I was discussing BITOG culture in general.

I agree with your summary above.

Prior to this thread, I'd never heard of Havoline Pro DS. I'm now interested in learning more about Havoline Pro DS. This thread has inspired me to research it to learn more about it. So I got something positive from this thread.

Thank you 53 Stude for starting this thread and thank you to whoever mentioned Havoline Pro DS.👍

You may have missed this thread. I particularly agree with post #2.

I might be on the spectrum, 🤷 but if so, I'm not the only one at BITOG. 🤣🤣🤣

I agree with post #2 in that thread you posted a link to. Cheer up people! We're all more similar than different. 😀

When we BITOG members sometimes annoy each other, we're probably really just getting a small taste of our own medicine and not liking it. Like a glimpse of how we annoy people who are not BITOG members. i.e. - a glimpse of how we annoy people who aren't on the spectrum. I've had that thought many times in the past long before this thread existed and before seeing that other thread.

For what it's worth, I like you guys more than I dislike you. 🤣

Unlikely you can offend me, although many try. I made it through Engineering school which I believe by definition puts me on the spectrum. :ROFLMAO:

If anyone has more info, or tech data, about Havoline Pro DS 5w30, or Chevron Delo 5w30, I'd love to hear about it.
I believe @Foxtrot08 is a distributor, but I may have the wrong person. Either way Chevron posts plenty of data. https://www.chevronlubricants.com/en_us/home/products/havoline-pro-ds-full-synthetic-motor-oil.html

There's some upsides to being on the spectrum. Without those people we'd have very few scientists, engineers, and IT people. Possibly less doctors too. Maybe less pilots. I don't think the world could function without those people.
