I have a 2004 CRV, 2004 Civic Si, and a 2004 Acura RSX Type S.

I have oil changes coming up for the CRV and RSX. From what I've read so far, Honda OEM filters aren't so great. What filter do you guys recommend? What filter(s) have you Honda owners had success with?

What Brand(s) is the best/high quality?

Separately, what Brand(s) is the best bang for the buck?

Thanks everyone.

Purolator Premium, Purolator PureOne, TotalGrip from Advance Auto are good bang for the buck. Napa, Napa Gold are good. SuperTech from WalMart is cheap. Mobil 1 and K&N are over $10 a piece but are good filters.

Honda has a different filter for the S2000 that has higher flow made by Toyo Roki. Not sure about the quality.

I have used Purolator Premium and PureOne, SuperTech, Mobil 1 & Napa Gold. Haven't found a problem yet. Do a search for yourself and you will find lots of raging debates (and good education) on filters here at BITOG.

since you have a fleet of hondas, you can look online and buy a decent size stash to save some $$. WIX (napa gold) seem to be very well constructed and are highly recommended. you can buy online at filter1.com rockauto.com or fleetfilters.com (sp?)

go to an online parts distributor, and get the denso first time fit filters. I was not impressed with the size/manufacture of Hmnda filters, the densos (or the nippons which are similar) are the best bet by far.

Call around some Honda dealers and see if they carry the OEM filtech filters. Part # 15400-PLM-A01.... If they have only A02, don't get it since it's made by Fram

Best filters are probably Amsoil, Mobil 1, and Purolator PureOne.

Best Bang for the Buck: AC PF1127, which I have used most on my '93 Civic with 122,000 miles.

What I like about the PF1127 is that it has an "O" ring, instead of the usual gasket. This is just like the Honda filters. There is no way the "O" ring is going to stick to the block and separate from the filter, the way the other gaskets can. Additionally, those with an "O" ring can be precisely torqued to 16 ft.-lbs.

Over on Acura-TL.com Road Rage has given the S2000 filter, 15400-PCX-004, high marks and the ok for use in the TL. If it fits any of your Honda/Acura's, use it. I use it on my 04 TL. No problems so far.

As well as Honda engineers the entire package, it's hard to believe the OEM Honda filter would not be your best choice. I see a ebay auction was shown above. My wife has a 3.0l Honda V6 in an Accord and that's how I get filters now.
If you are patent on ebay you can find Honda Oil filters for way less than shown above.

So is..

15400-POH-305

and

15400-PLM-A02 the same? which ones are better?

(also, which fits on the 94 accords?)
thanks

If you like the OEM Honda filters, you might as well pick up Fram filters (cost less than the OEM filters), they seem to be identical with the exception of the paint color.

Take a look at my link above, Honda has 2 filters... One that is made by fram and the other made by Filtech (like the one in my link above) The filtech ones has a different part number vs. the Fram. You can see a big difference between the two in this link:

The A02 and A01 is the replacement of the 305... Go to Honda and pick up a 15400-PLM-A01 made by Filtech. or buy it on Ebay, I posted a link above. Yes, the A01 and A02 will fit your Accord.
