Filter gasket stuck on block Question

I haven't had a gasket stick to the mounting surface in my experiences yet. I've had a gasket fall off before installation though causing the filter to just make metal to metal contact, but I could tell by the feel of it that it wasn't right and I checked it to see that the gasket fell off the filter next to me

I do the exact same thing.
I always wipe down the mating surface too. Sometimes a lot of dirt accumulates around the filter and I don't want it between the gasket or in the new filter.
In my younger days I did get stung by the double gasket. You only need that experience once...
