It's my understanding that Honda's filters to 30 microns, SuperTech filters to 20 microns, and Bosch filters to 15 microns. I don't know what Mobil 1 or K&H filters to.
I'm wondering what would be a good filter practice for a Mobil 1 0w20 oil using extended drain. By extended drain I mean a mileage interval close to the "Normal" service recommended by Honda. They recommend 10k miles for my 03 Accord 4 cylinder so I'm thinking like 9K miles.
My driving is mostly highway and I put over 550 miles a week.
A theory is that a filter may clog up causing the bypass value to open if it filters smaller partials over an extended interval.
Honda OEM Filter (not Fram made)?
Honda recommends every other oil change or 20k miles of "Normal" driving so it should have no problem with 9k miles but it only filters to 30 microns.
SuperTech Filter?
At less then $2.00 each I could change it mid way in the interval and I'll get 33% smaller partials size filtering then the Honda OEM. The SuperTech Filter will be the least expensive filter even if I change it twice. I think the 0w-20 oil I'll have to add by changing the filter is more expensive then the filter.
Will 20 microns clog the filter if I don't change in midway?
Bosch Filter?
Maybe the 15 microns is too small for an extended interval. If I change it twice, it will be about the same price as a Mobil 1 or K&H filter. 15 microns is only 25% better then the SuperTech but 50% better then the Honda OEM.
Mobil 1 or F&H Filter?
I think the price is a little high and are they that much better? Also will they clog up on an extended interval?
