Thanks John! I will probably go with a 10w-30 or a 0w-30 in the Honda. So far I have been very impressed with the GC in my VW. It just runs so smooth!

I am right outside of Huntsville. Used to live in Warner Robbins, GA about 12 years ago. I may make it to Atlanta this year to see the Braves. You from Bama?

I am originally from Decatur and that is where my father, mother, and brother live. I have aunts and uncle in Huntsville. I have been in Atlanta for 15 years. Let me know if you need the best shortcut route to the ATL from Huntsville.

If you use the GC or Mobil 1, please do a UOA. My wife has an 04 Odyssey with the 5w-20 recommended. I am interested to see how a 30 weight synthetic does with your 3.5L vtec. Since the hot summer is coming up, I am considering using a good dino 10w-30 at the next OCI in the Odyssey since it is 3 months old.

OK John, I'll let you know if I am coming that way. I will do a uoa but it will be later this year. My 99 reccomends 5w30 but says 10w-30 is ok for temps above 20F. But I'm sure the vtec motor has changed some in 5 years. Mine is rated at something like 205HP and I think your's is around 240HP now? I would definitley live by the UOA with a heavy vechicle and light oil. Since mine now has 86k, I'm thinking the heavier GC will work great, but it hasn't used any oil with regular 5w30. I have never done a uoa on it so I have no idea about the wear. But that's going to change since I've learned so much from this site! Thanks BITOG!

I can't believe people don't change their filter with the oil. $3.99 can get you some of the best filters made. And when you're under there, it takes about 30 seconds to change the filter!

And, as that infamous long Oil Life Study is indicating, it may be better to not change the oil as often, and change the filter more often. This apparently replenishes the oil additive package, and improves the cleaning of the oil, of course, through the new filter.

One other option if you don't like going under for just a oil filter change; most quick lubes (not the nationals) and most service stations will change a filter for $3 or less.

I don't change my own oil and did this when I added Auto RX.

VW and Crysler and another major car company did a filter study some years ago and the data demonstrated that the filtering improves with usage (up to a point). Based on that data several companies now recomend changing the oil filter every other oil change. When I worked at Abbott Laboratories and tested medical filters, that test data also demonstrated that filtering improves with ussage. I however still change oil and filter at the same time as I guess old habits die hard. Ed Hayes
