Filter change every other oil change - anyone doing it?

Your last sentence goes against Lake Speed Jr.'s thoughts that the higher the mileage rating, the lower the efficiency. Filters that are built to last longer are less efficient so they don't clog during that lifespan, according to him.
That's true with conventional media filters, or the really cheap synthetic media ones (Wix XP), but not for true depth filtration media. I covered this in my "what's your filter?" thread that's sticky at the top of this section, but the emergence of the ultra high efficiency Stratapore and Synteq filter media by Fleetguard and Donaldson targeted high efficiency, high holding capacity and extended drain capability. This was done through the use of true depth filtration media, with multiple layers of synthetic media.

It's inevitable that filters will last longer than oil just because you need to get rid of things that the filter cannot catch. Filters don't keep oil clean, they just slow the rate of spoilage.

Unless you are running HPL for 20k miles or such, it's highly unlikely that the filter you are throwing away is anywhere near its full capacity, especially if you are in an engine that's already clean.

The only reason I'm still changing filters with each drain is because I'm running VRP in a heavily varnished engine that is cleaning it quite a bit. SO the filter load is much higher than it would be in either a clean engine or one that isn't getting cleaner.
